(north of Big Bend Blvd.) Manchester, MO 63021-6943 (636) 225-6454 Monday - Friday.... 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday........... 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I came across this, 39-00 ST. LOUIS COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION c/o St. Louis County Department of Planning, 41 South Central, St. Louis, Missouri 63105 - A proposal to amend the base flood elevations (BFEs) for Grand Glaize Creek within the unincorporated area of St. Louis County, from approximately 400 feet upstream of Dougherty Ferry Road to approximately 3,000 feet upstream of Dougherty Ferry Road as accepted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The proposed map revision relates to the floodway boundaries of Grand Glaize Creek as adopted by Chapter 1008 of the St. Louis County Revised Ordinances. The area you seek is probably near the Glaize Creek in St. Louis County. There is a Grand Glaize Wastewater Treatment Plant, Valley Park, MO 63088. So Valley Park may somehow be included in your search. Glaize Creek is close to Valley Park. Simpson Park: Address: Marshall & Grand Glaize 206 acres with 72-acre lake (electric motors only), fishing, athletic fields, trails, picnic sites and shelters and playground. In 1798, John Ball moved to what is now West St. Louis County. In 1800, he was given title to about 400 acres along Grand Glaize Creek, but since the land was under Spanish rule at the time, the Louisiana Purchase raised doubts about ownership. It took Ball 10 years of court appeals to clear his claim. The town was originally recorded as Ballshow in 1837, but two days later Ball amended the recorded plat to Ballwin because, it is said, he felt his new community would 'win out' over its older neighbors. Ballwin began as a handful of families, but it grew to a village of 750 when it was incorporated in 1950. Today, Ballwin is a thriving city of almost 30,000 residents. http://www.villageprofile.com/missouri/weststlouis/weststlouis1.html Desoto Joe/The Record Man
Looking for any information on Nancy Angel..... On the microfilm for the marriage records of Jefferson Co MO is the following record (I *think* the man's surname is PEARCE, but only the "PEA" are for sure). It reads... "...George W. PEA(RCE) to Nancy ANGEL on the 16th of October 1836 - I certify the three above certificates to - as they stand on my books of record this 3rd day of November 1836. B. F. Harwell (?) Justice of the Peace" The same JP also married another couple and Joseph S. McKEE and Senthy (sic) WIDEMAN on the 9th of Oct 1836, and all that info was included on this one record. Am trying to determine if the man Nancy married was really PEARCE (and, of course, who their children were, who their parents were, etc etc etc :-). The only way to find the record is to actually read the microfilm - the above record is not listed in *any* of the printed editions of Jefferson Co MO Marriage Records that I have seen to date. Sincerely appreciate any help! Thanks, Jo Ann (Pierce) Miller http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jcat2/

I am hoping that some descendants of some of these indidviduals have pictures taken at the reunions, other than the two I have already posted on the MOJEFFER website, that were sent to me by a McCormack descendant. If anyone has pictures, it would be nice if they were sent to the website, or I would appreciate having them sent to me. I have not included the names of the speakers or the ministers who gave the blessings at the meals. Betty Olson, the librarian at the DeSoto Public Library, now has a copy of the reunion book that I sent her.

Hi, Could someone please look for Frederick Schmidt/Smith who came to Jefferson County, MO from (Germany?) (Denmark?) about 1832 with his brothers, John and Jacob Schmidt/Smith. Frederick may have been George Frederick, wife may have been Mary. Two of the children were Lucy Ann and August. Lucy was born ca 1850. Also for a William Stringfellow, born ca 1845. Thank you so much. Warm Regards, Lois Branch

He came to America when a boy, and in 1850 settled in the neighborhood where he died. He lived there until 1865 and then moved to Jefferson County. He was united in marriage in 1870 to Cella B. Garrett. Nine children were born to this union of whom five are living, Blanche, Bertha, James, Maud and Lon. He was an earnest and consistent christian and had been a deacon in the Baptist church about 40 years. Of his immediate family who reside at a distance are Mrs. F. W. Nicholls of Fresno, Calif.; Lon E. of St. Louis; Mrs. C. C. Williams of Festus and Mrs. John Manwarring of Bonne Terre [St. Francois County]. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, James of St. Louis; Thomas of Herculaneum and Mrs. Kearns Murphy of Bonne Terre. He was well known and held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. He had been postmaster at Valle Mines for many years. R. G. Ramsey
Good Morning List! I just wanted to remind you all to not forget to check out the St. Francois County Obituary Board while researching your family lines. A friend, Mary Taylor, and I (and others) have been working very, very hard this past month to get as many obituaries as we can online. If you haven't been there in awhile, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I believe there are now over 1000 obituaries on the St. Francois County Board. Many of these are 50-100 years old. I don't believe when you run a search of the Query Board, that it will pick up these entries on the Obituary Board. Therefore, you should bookmark the site and check it out from time to time in addition to the Query Board. Here is the link to the St. Francois County Obituary Board: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/StFrancoisObits Adding obituaries to the St. Francois County Obituary Board as well as the Obituary Boards of the surrounding counties will be a continuing project of ours. I, myself, have many hundred more to add, most of which I've copied from the microfilmed newspaper records and other records at the local public libraries, as well as having accumulated many in my own personal research. I don't have most of these in any particular order. I'm just adding them randomly. If we all work together, we can make the St. Francois County Obituary Board as well as the Boards in the surrounding counties the best in the State. Please, if you have any old obituaries in your files which pertain to your family lines, we'd appreciate it if you could post them to the appropriate county Board, along with the source of the obit (name of newspaper, date, etc., if you have that information). After all, they're not doing anyone else any good stuck back in your files. Please run a search first, however, to make sure it's not already on there so there won't be any duplicates. Posting your obituaries is also an excellent way to get contacts from distant family members. Since May and I have started this project, we both have been contacted many times by people offering to share information with us. They're all excited because they think that they've finally found someone else who is interested in their family line. We've had to disappoint them by explaining that we're not a family member and we don't know anything other than what is in the posted obit. It's kind of hard for them to comprehend that we're just posting obits of strangers online for the heck of it - ha! Also, as you know, newspaper obits are not always accurate. We've tried our best to type these obits exactly as they appeared in the newspaper. If you find any obituaries we've posted that deal with your family and you know for a fact that any of the information contained in the posted obituary is incorrect, please don't e-mail us and blame us for the mistake. Please just post the correction in the form of a reply to that original post so anyone subsequently researching that name will have the correction along with the original post. Again, please check the Obituary Board out and remember to check back from time to time as we will continually be adding obits to the Board over the next few months (and hope everyone else will contribute their obits too). I never realized that there were so many dead people in St. Francois County alone until I started this project! It's just been overwhelming, and way, way too much work for two people to do alone! Washington County also has an excellent Obituary Board going. They currently have several hundred obituaries online too so don't forget to check their Board too, as well as the surrounding counties (Madison, Iron, Ste. Genevieve, Jefferson). As you all know, these ancestors had a way of getting around! Here, all in one group, are the links to the Obit Boards in the counties surrounding St. Francois County and St. Francois County. You can research and/or contribute obituary information from these links: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/StFrancoisObits http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/WashingtonObits http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/JeffersonObits http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/IronObits http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/MadisonObits http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/SteGenevieveObits If you have information to post in several different counties in Missouri, or wish to research in several different counties, this is an excellent site to start from since you can skip around from county to county and from board to board from here. It's also an excellent site to bookmark. It's the Missouri Visitor Center at RootsWeb. You can get to "all" the Boards in "all" the counties in the State of Missouri from here. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/Mo.html Also, don't forget those Bible records, deed records, biographies, Wills, pensions, etc. If you have any of that type of information, please share it with us. We all like to "discover" information online, but it has to be put there before we can "discover" it. If you all share what information you have with everyone else, you may be surprised at the wealth of information and contacts you'll receive in return. I know I have been. I've been in contact with cousins from all over the United States as well as other countries around the World since I started this quest for my roots. I've also met many wonderful friends who have volunteered their time to help me out with my family research. It's been a wonderful and thrilling experience. I intend to post this e-mail from time to time as a reminder to new List members to check the Board. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please contact me. Thanks! Bettye mailto:bkwofc@i1.net P.S. I've accumulated many pictures of headstones and tombstones from around St. Francois County and surrounding counties. Many dealing with my own lines as well as pictures I've taken with my digital camera for others. I was thinking about maybe starting some sort of virtual online photo album at webshots or one of the other free image hosting websites. Sort of a virtual cemetery. What do you all think of this idea? Also, if any of you have pictures in your files, if you'd like to e-mail them to me, I'd be more than happy to add them to the photo album once it's been established. Or, if there's an online website already established that I could upload these pictures to, please let me know the link. I'd really like to get all these pictures off of my harddrive and into the public view so others could benefit from them too. Another brainstorm - I have accumulated many old family pictures (as I'm sure many of you have too) which are unidentified. It just drives me crazy that I don't know who these people are. I also have many photos which are not from my family, but which I would love to reunite with the family to which they belong. A photo album of unidentified St. Francois County, Washington County, etc. photos for everyone to view would be a possible way for us to get those "fallen leaves" from our family trees identified, don't you think? > > > >

There was no formal Federal census for Missouri in 1820 because Missouri didn't become a state until 1821 but there are lists of heads of households that are taken from certain areas. The St. Louis Library has an 1820 book but i don't think it lists the heads of households names, rather numbers. But you can get into the website for the library and do a search to see what the book has. You can't search the book itself but it should tell you what's available. It's a great website and if you plan to visit the library it's helpful to look at their searchable lists to see what they have so you can be prepared to spend your time there. Becky

In 1843, Milton Parke purchased a 160 acre farm near the town of Kimmswick from Joseph Sale and soon after his brother, Merrel Parke, purchased a farm in the same area. Milton married Almira Pipkin, daughter of Col.Philip Pipkin, and had 3 children, Jonah, Philip, and Fannie. Philip Parke married Anna Maria Gregori and had 5 children ( Ardell, A.Stephen, Philip Jonah, Dewey, and Cecil). I know little about Merrel Parke. I'm searching for any information about these relatives and especially would like any pictures that might be available of Almira Pipkin Parke and Merrel Parke for the family doesn't have any existing.

I seem to remember an off-hand comment about the MOSSes in Goodspeede's History of 1888 - something about a celebration at the end of the Civil War "at Widow Moss's on Sandy." But I can't find it now. Maybe it was in some other Jefferson Co. history book. Aha! Here it is, from Zoe Rutledge's book: On the 4th of July, 1866, there were many public celebrations and some private, including one "at the home of the Widow Moss on Sandy." I have info from Mary Jane Boyer's book: Captain William Moss was a Virginian who fought in the Revolutionary War. He arrived in Missouri (Ste. Genevieve) in 1795. Soon after he settled permanently on Sandy Creek in what is now Jefferson County in Township 41 - range 5. He married Judy Thomas in 1798. (She ws the daughter of Cap't Mark Thomas who lived in Monroe County, Illinois and who built the forts at Louisville, Kentucky. Hope that helps. Just a reminder that Goodspeede's Jefferson County section is on-line at http://rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/jeffcomo/ Mona On Fri, 20 Oct 2000 01:39:51 -0500 "Desoto Joe" <joey@jcn1.com> writes: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Barbara <opie2000@earthlink.net> > To: <MOJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2000 1:29 PM > Subject: [MOJEFFER] Capt.
