Try the USGS (United States Geologic Survey) or any place that may carry USGS maps. Another alternative, especially if you'd like to see a map that is closer to the actual time, try the maps posted on the Jefferson County Web Page (www.rootsweb.com/~mojeffer/townships) which also show township and range. There is a big walled in plot that is inaccessable most of the year.(vines & weeds) It has a stone that reads Smythe family resting here. There are stones here that may be readable if applied with shaving cream, but I could not guarantee it. I know some of the standing stones are Rankin members. There seems to be a family laid out at the end, with a few stones, but no written words adorn the stones. This cemetery is pretty big & I believe that there are quite a few others that are not accounted for here, interred there. Desoto Joe/The Record Man
Where would I write for a Jefferson County map that gives township and range. I have a BLM land patent to John S. Manion which gives the legal description of the land and would like to find a map that I could use to see where it was located.
I came across some information that my great-great-great grandparents, William and Eliza (Sturdivant) Swink, were buried in the McNutt private graveyard on what was the McNutt farm in the early 1880's. This was just north of Festus on "the old St. Louis road." I know that this property was owned by their son-in-law George McNutt , married to their daughter Sarah Ann, and was probably near the McNutt School. I know that there are a number of people working on graveyards. I was wondering if anyone happened to know the location of this site. I believe that there are probably other relatives buried there also. Rick Waggener

Ray- I was unable to locate any Clifton Lowe or Estes Chatfield, or anything even close, on the Federal Censuses in Jefferson County for 1850, 1860, 1870, or 1880. I think it is a good bet that they were not in this county during these time periods.
