Francis R. Hyland officiating. Burial was in St. Joachim's Cemetery, Old Mines. Mahn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Schutte was born Dec. 26, 1880, at Richwoods, a son of the late John and Mary Merseal Schutte. He died July 24, after an illness of about five years, at Rose Hill Nursing Home, Festus. A retired farmer, Mr. Schutte had been a resident of Jefferson County ten years. His home was at 213 Roberts St. De Soto. He was married May 10, 1900, at Richwoods to Helen LaPee. Survivors include; Three daughters, Mrs Margaret Heob, Ste. Genevieve, Mrs. Christine Pruneau, Crystal City, and Mrs. Mary Jokerst, Bloomsdale; five sons, Vincent and Francis, De Soto, Jerry, St. Louis, Ralph, Florissant, and Patrick, Ferguson; one sister, Mrs. Martha Courtois, De Soto; a half-brother, Sam Schutte, St. Louis; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Proceding Mr. Schutte in death were his wife; two sons, Michael and Stephen; and a brother, Stephen.

Donald Wideman of Oakville officiating. Interment was in Stafford Cemetery, Star Route West. Mrs. Maness was born March 29, 1876, in Washington County, a daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca (Taylor) O'Harver. She died July 24 at her home in the Mammoth area following a long illness. She was married in 1905 to Acre Maness. He and two children preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Melvin O'Harver, Route One, Hillsboro, and Joseph L. Maness, Bland; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Benton, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Oscar (Lucy) Heidbrink, Star Route, De Soto; and one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Heiting, Lemay. Mrs. Maness was a member of the Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Garden. Mrs. Stoye died July 25 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was born in northern Missouri Jan. 1, 1896, the daughter of the late George and Ida Cox Green. She and her husband were former owners of Stoye Auto Parts in De Soto and Crystal City. They also resided in St. Louis for several years. Surviving are her husband, Karl Stoye, De Soto, and two sisters, Mrs. Inez Newhouse, St. Louis, and Mrs. Velma Turner, Springfield.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, (Friday) at 11 a.m. in a chapel of Sparks Funeral Home in Bonne Terre. The Rev. Roy Foster of Centenary Methodist Church, Bonne Terre, will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks. Mr. Merifield was born Aug. 10, 1895, in St. Louis, the son of Ernest N. and Antonnette Schneider Merifield. On Aug. 27, 1941, he was married to the former Katherine Ahrens, who survives. He also leaves three children, Marlene, at home, Wayne of Phoenix, Ariz., and Don Grace of Bonne Terre; also two sisters, Mrs. Emil (lillian) Hoelscher and Mrs. Geo. (Helen) Smith, both of St. Louis; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gordon, and a brother. Mr. Merifield, a World War I veteran, was a retired employee of the Wabash Railroad. She had been ill about a month, and in failing health for some time. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Fred Shrum of First Methodist Church at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) in a chapel of Mahn Funeral Home. Burial will be in City Cemetery. Mrs. Hardin was born Jan. 26, 1883, at Hopewell, Mo. She had been a resident of De Soto for ten years and was a member of First Methodist Church, the Bern Bible Class, and the King's Daughters. Surviving are a son, Rolla Hardin, De Soto, a sister, Mrs. Alice Spears, and a brother, William Tuite, both of Omaha, Neb; also two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He had been in declining health for some time and underwent gall bladder surgery about three weeks ago. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at two o'clock in a chapel of Dietrich Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Core officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn. Mr. Gibbons was born March 14, 1880 at De Soto, a son of William and Margaret Gibbons. He married Miss Minerva DeClue June 26, 1911, and they established their home here. Following his retirement from railway service, they operated Summitt Cafe on present Route CC, for a time, then were in California from 1950 to 1959. Returning to Missouri two years ago they began residence at 7310 Murdock, Shrewsbury, and observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary there in June. While much interested in civic affairs here, Mr. Gibbons did not hold public office. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He leaves his wife, and four children; Walter, of Shrewsbury; Mrs. Helen Francis and Stanley, of Gardena, Calif.;and Harold, of Fort Lee, N.J. A daughter, Mary Margaret, died in infancy, and a son, Oscar Tom Gibbons, who edited the Jefferson County Republican 1939 to 1942, died about seven years ago following a highway accident in Texas. There are twelve grandchildren.

His son, Hilmer Huber, found the body in the barn, suspended from a crosstie by a rope around the neck. No notes were found, but the elder Huber had been complaining of ill health recently, it was testified at an inquest in Festus [Jefferson County]. A verdict of suicide was returned. Huber's herd of registered brown Swiss cattle was considered one of the best in this part of the country. --St. Louis Globe-Democrat [Above article from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat was reprinted in The Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, on Friday, February 3, 1950].

Banks Stephens was married first to Elizabeth Boland, they were married in 1882 in Dent Co.     3. In surfing around, possibly on the Desoto page, I found in 1888 an H. Stall who had a General Merchandise store at this time in with a group of busines people. I do not live in or near Desoto.. Has anyone heard of this H. Stalls or any Stalls family in the area. thank you Pat

Then she took the baby and left. So I am trying to find something bout Elmer. I found where he married Blanche Thompson in St. Louis in 1903, then I lost him. I would like to find out more about Ellen Stall also.
