    1. [MOJEFFER] Thanks Joe!
    2. B. Warner
    3. Joe, Keep up the good work! It's appreciated. No one is perfect so it's always good to be able to view more than one list on the same cemetery. Just because a cemetery was already transcribed years ago certainly doesn't been that it was done perfectly. I've found many times what is not on one list may be included on another list prepared by someone else. In fact, I have three different lists prepared by three different people of a cemetery in St. Francois County. The person who I was looking for was included on none of these lists, yet when I personally visited the cemetery, there was her stone standing tall and proud right in the middle of the cemetery! I don't know how three different people missed her. Another thing I've found is that many of these stones will have names recorded on both the front and back, and sometimes on all four sides. Some of these names may be overlooked by by one person, but picked up by another. Also, I've even dug stones out of the ground that were not included on a previous list, but thanks to my "recovery efforts" will be included on a future list. Due to weathering over the years, some of the numbers and letters are easily misread too. Therefore, more than one list is always a good source of comparison. Recording a cemetery that has already been recorded is not a waste of time, in my opinion! Thanks again! 3. Joe--thanks for all the info. I just wanted to add that I think I have information on the unmarked graves in this cemetery, but I have to dig to find it. I'll post when I find it. I have been cruising the cemeteries in search of the lost & forgotten men who served in the Civil War. I have found that in these older lists, some of the information on these graves are incorrect, or just plain missed. They are great for those graves that are no longer around, if correct, but they are not posted anywhere on the web, where people not living here in Jefferson County, can easily access them. I have been asked to transcribe these cemeteries, since I will be there anyway, so I have been backtracking to those that I've already been to. I knew that your Kyle relative was there, by corresponding with Charlene Hamman Konersmann, but not seeing the info on the stone, it was not posted on my list. The reason I knew he was there, is because I'm looking for Henry Kyle's burial location. He was in the Civil War & I would like to find his missing grave. Any idea where he might be? I guess it would be easier to get these older lists & post them, in fact, I have files given to me by others, who recorded many cemeteries in the 50's. I just hate putting info out there, without knowing for sure that they exist, but that's just me. Victoria may seem small, but I put a few hours into walking around & recording that one, plus I sometimes meet very interesting & friendly people while in the cemetery. I have the De Soto city cemetery about half done, now that one is huge! Perhaps I'll post what I have now & post the rest when I finish. Desoto Joe/The Record Man

    1. Re: [MOJEFFER] Victoria Cemetery
    2. Hey Joe - You are doing a great service here with these small cemeteries - however - you may want to check with the St. Louis Genalgocial Society and the Jeffe Co Society before pursuing more. Many of these have already been transcribed - some of them years ago. The Victoria Cemetery was done about 15-20 years ago by volunteers from the STLGS. My great grandparents are there, (John and Germima KYLE)and their stone, legible at that time, is now illegible, and therefore was not on your list. So they have been "missed" as many others may have been too in 2001. Thanks! Linda

    1. [MOJEFFER] Obituary of William Rogers - 3 Jun 1894
    2. Gary Conley
    3. Posted on: Jefferson County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/JeffersonObits/10255 Surname: Rogers, Everett ------------------------- Sudden Death Last Saturday afternoon, at about 4 o'clock, William Rogers of Dry Creek was plowing corn, when his boy brought him a jug of fresh water. He took a few swallows of the water and suddenly placed his hands to his stomach, crying out in pain. He at once went to the house and sent for Dr. Cornell. When the doctor came Rogers said to him "You have relieved me before, but I will die now." The severe pain continued until death released him. It was supposed to be a form of acute colic, to which he had been subject for years. Mr. Rogers was a man past middle age and leaves family. His remains were conveyed through Hillsboro, Monday, on the way to the family burying ground at the old Rogers place [south of Antonia] on the headwaters of Glaize Creek. [Note: William was born 28 May 1844 in Jefferson County, Missouri, the son of Willis Rogers & Nancy (Everett) Rogers. Any information on the wife & children of William would be appreciated.]

    1. [MOJEFFER] Obituary of Mary Gonz - 1 Jun 1894
    2. Gary Conley
    3. Posted on: Jefferson County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/JeffersonObits/10254 Surname: Gonz, Arbeiter ------------------------- Death of Mrs. Jos. Gonz. It is my painful duty to report the death of Mrs. Jos. [Mary] Gonz, which occurred Friday, Jun 1 [1894]. She leaves a husband and three small children [Joseph Jr., Frank & Mary], together with a mother and sister who will bitterly feel the lose of a loving mother, wife and friend. Mrs. Gonz was sick but one week, but realized before the end came that she was departing this life. It was indeed a severe shock to this community and her many friends when the sad news was spread on Friday morning that she had passed away. Her funeral was attended by hundreds of friends who tearfully and sorrowfully followed to her last resting place. Words are inadequate to descibe the grief of the little children who seem to realize their irreparable loss, and this makes the sorrow of the older ones doubly severe. We can but add our tear to the fount of pity and ask that the mercy of Providence may alleviate the grief which human sympathy fails to assuage. A FRIEND. Nuelles, June 5, 1894. [ Note : Mary's husband, Joseph (1861-1929) was the son of Albert Gonz & Mary A. (Arbeiter) Gonz. Joseph & Mary are buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery / Cedar Hill Baptist Cemetery in Cedar Hill, Mo. Mary was born 24 Nov 1863.]

    3. I just recently acquired maps of every county in MO, or at least I think they are all there. I haven't been able to make 100% sure. These maps were done in the 1980s and have churches and cemeteries marked on them. I am sure they don't have every cemetery marked but they do have some. I can do some look ups for directions if I have enough information on them. I would need a road, town, and/or an area of a county to look for them. Please do not ask me to look for all the cemeteries in a county or in the state. I will do what I can with in reason. Please email me at my personal email address instead of the list so we don't tie the list up with the request. You can order the type of maps you want from the "Missouri Department of Transportation"...... http://www.modot.state.mo.us and scroll down to "Request County Maps".... The maps show the Townships, Range and Sections....... At 50 cents a map.... you might want to order for others counties while you're at it....... I wish ALL States had maps like the Missouri maps....... Also..... the following website has a "Detailed" explantion about "Townships, Range and Sections"........ It is a "MUST READ" (my opinion) for beginners....... http://members.tripod.com/LeeHouse/platTool.htm#T&Rsys NOTE: The calculator part.... currently is not available.... Hope this helps... Janet The Missouri Department of Transportation offers Missouri county maps (map size 18 x 27 inches, 1/2" = 1 mile) for $.50 per map, or a complete set for $50.00.
