    2. Hi Joe, I don't have anybody buried in Jefferson Co., but I still really appreciate the time and effort you are going to, to transcribe the cemeteries here -- especially the big ones. I look at big cemeteries and just sigh and think they would be impossible to transcribe. You're doing a wonderful service. Good job!!! 2. Hazel Kimbrell
    3. I am trying desperately to locate information on a James Bradock Harris who was Killed In Action in Vietnam on April 24, 1971 ant the age of 21. He was from Festus, MO. We would like to try and make contact with some of his family so if anyone can find maybe his obituary or something that will help us in our search, let me say in advance thank you. I have been trying to get information on him for about a year now but am getting nowhere. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated and will help us, his buddies, fulfill a promise we made to him in the jungles of Vietnam. Thank you, Bill Kimbrell and the men of the 60th Engineer Co. (LC) Vietnam 1970-71

    3. Marianne: You certainly bring up a valid question. I have been researching since 1975 - most of that time in Missouri and I have only found one copy of ANY local level census. If others know of any censuses that are considered local level copies for any year for any county and state, please let me know. 1. [MOJEFFER] Sheriff
    2. William Goodwin
    3. Hello List: Can anyone tell me anything about a Barry Ballou who was reportedly the Jefferson Co. Sheriff for a long time? I'm especially interested in his wife and family and time period.I think it must have been in the 1850-1860's. Any info at all will be greatly appreciated. Edna

    2. DeSoto Joe, Keep up the good work, I know that over time weather can destroy a stone, or in some cases some were probably too poor to afford much more than a hand made one. Bobbie

    1. [MOJEFFER] cemetery listing much appreciated
    2. m. benson
    3. I really appreciate Joe for listing all the little cemeteries in Jeff. Co. I keep hoping he will run across the grave of my g grandfather David Chance who died in Jeff. Co. in 1904 - David was a CW vet who served in the NC 13th and then moved to Mo. in 1870. Also there are 2 graves somewhere in Jeff Co. for 2 of my uncles, Harry Wayne and Claude Manion who died as children between 1895 and 1900. I am afraid all three graves are unmarked, but still I really appreciate the listings.

    2. This brings me to a question that no one has ever been able to answer for me. If it was required during the 1890 census to make a copy which was sent to federal and the original was stay at the county level (or vice versa) how is it that not one single county/census taker complied with this requirement? Were there not any consciencious workers who would have followed those directions - or, I have been given bad information concerning the directions in 1890? Marianne "Medlin" <medlincar@emai To: MOJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com l.msn.com> cc: Subject: Re: [MOJEFFER] Thanks Joe! 04/17/01 08:54 AM Ditto! Remember that about census records too. I think many people are missed there because one film is from the National record and others may be from a state or local record...and since there was only one original record made and then a re-written copy was sent to the sate and even local government, there can be 3 different records of the same census taking. Don't ask me which years this applies to, I don't have time to look that up, but I know it is true and I just offer it as a warning to recheck ALL available sources when you can't find your people. So what Joe is doing is very important, useful and very kind! Carolyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. 3. The value of periodic cemetery walking helps show that a cemetery still exists and that tombstones are still there or not there whatever the case may be. I welcome the entries.
