    3. Barbara, I believe that there is a book available for sale at the DeSoto Library that is specifically dedicated to the history of Vineland. If I'm not mistaken, it's written by Norma Hoelzel, the same person who wrote the Blackwell Missouri & Beyond Book and the book on Valle Mines. Here is the address & phone number for the library: De Soto Library 712 South Main Street (314) 586-3858 I hope this helps! B. 2. Looking for the gravesite of Melba Grace STARKS b. 1915 d. 1922 and Wallace STARKS d. 1930 and Etta May (Meadows)STARKS d. 1938. I know that Melba died in a fire in Festus, MO, no interment info was given on the death certificate. Supposedly all three of these people are buried in the same cemetery but family members do not know which one. It may not have been in Festus. Any help would be appreciated. Please email me personally besides placing a reply to this query.

    1. [MOJEFFER] Reply to James Johnston re: James M. Huskey
    2. David Mrad
    3. Hi James, Actually, I'm "Mrs" David Mrad (Nova Reece Mrad)--we use the same email address. It appears there are at least a couple of James M. Huskeys born around the same time. Here is some information about James M. Huskey sent to me by Lloyd Carter and referenced through census data. It is apparently correct (concerning my g. grandparents) since it refers to my grandmother, Aunt Mary, and Uncle Harry (Peter): > >From 1900 census of Jefferson County, MO. > >VALLE TOWNSHIP, City of Desoto, Ward #3 14, June 1900 > > > >HUSKEY, James b. May 1865 married 10 yrs. MO-MO-MO painter > > Elizabeth E. b. Mar 1871 4/3 MO-MO-KY > > Peter H. b. Sep 1891 MO-MO-MO > > Mable U. b. Dec 1894 MO-MO-MO > > Mary E. b. Sep 1898 MO-MO-MO > > > > Mabel spelled different in census. > > > > Lloyd My problem is that I don't know his or G.Grandma's parents' names so I can continue my research. Concerning other "James Huskey" possibilities--I found 103 matches on Ancestry.Com for "James Huskey" Search for ancestry.com and when you get there enter James Huskey. You will reach featured databases; click on "Ancestry World Tree entries for James Huskey--103 matches". Lots of info. there that might help you. Here is an example of what you'll find: JAMES HUSKEY III (M) - Pedigree | Ind. View |E-mail Submitter/Download File Birth: 1860 -- Death: 1891-1950 -- Spouse: , MATILDA JAMES Parents: JAMES M. HUSKEY I, LUCINDA ELIZABETH WIDEMAN Also, I find that if I use GOOGLE search engine, and enter "James Huskey", I find loads of info. I use the quotes to restrict the scale of the search. Hope this helps. Nova

    1. [MOJEFFER] Medley Family in Jefferson County
    2. Donna Rodoni
    3. Hello, I'm looking for my Medley family roots in Jefferson County. My GGF was Sib Theodore Medley was born in Hematite, Jefferson County, Mo., on Oct 14, 1861, and died April 22, 1944 after spending most of his life in DeSoto. On Jan. 6, 1886, he was married to Mary Ellen (Ella) Hendrickson, born June 1, 1862 and died September 24, 1939. They had 4 sons and 2 daughters, all born in Jefferson County. His parents were Joseph and Katherine Medley. Sib was raised on the family farm and in his youth worked for a glass factory in Crystal City, MO. That is where the trail ends. Any information on this family would be most appreciated. Donna/Santa Cruz, CA

    1. [MOJEFFER] Huskey, Wilson, Clark, Reece, Janes
    2. David Mrad
    3. Hi Lloyd, I don't have any other information about relatives predating James M. Huskey. My father was Norvel L. Reece, born Aug. 30, 1912 in Pevely MO to Mabel (or Mable Huskey)--actually she was called "Mae" all of her life--(daughter of James M. Huskey and Elizabeth Wilson Huskey) and William Thomas"Tom" Reece(son of Logan Reece and Ellie Janes). I was told that G.Grandma Wilson's maiden name was "Clark", and she and G. Grandpa Wilson were from the British Isles. The only other info I have concerns the rest of Grandma's siblings-- Uncle Clarence (Jack) and Aunt Alberta (originally Roberta, but changed her name--also had the nickname "Carrie") were born sometime between 1900 and 1910. I'm finding that the Huskeys followed the common trend of the time in naming their children after relatives, and that the large families of early Jefferson County tended to intermarry further complicating research. Also, many individuals chose to go by middle names or nicknames, rather than their given first names. Being new to genealogy research, I sometimes find these to be frustrating, but common obstacles in the process of discovery. Please let me know if you happen upon any additional Huskey/Wilson info. Also, if you come across any data on William Thomas Reece, Logan Reece or Ellie Janes I would appreciate it very much . Thanks, Nova

    1. [MOJEFFER] George MOTHERSHEAD (B.21 or 22 Sept 1866 in "DeSota")
    2. susan thomas
    3. George MOTHERSHEAD (b. 21/22 Sep 1866) is my ggfather on my mother's side. His death certificate issued in Weld Co, CO at his death on 29 Nov 1939, lists the following information (supplied by his widow Eva): Date of Birth: September 22, 1866 Birthplace: De Sota, Missouri Name of Father: John Mothershead, born in Missouri Name of Mother: Ann Merle, born in Missouri I believe that "De Sota" is De Soto and that "Merle" is MURRELL. I am working to confirm what appears likely, that "my" George is the George MOTHERSHEAD ("b. 1866 in Jefferson Co") that is the son of John MOTHERSHEAD ("b. February 1832 in MO") that is the son of the Clifton MOTHERSHEAD ("b. 1800 Kentucky") that has been so well documented by JoAnn. The following would be helpful to me if anyone already has them in hand: -A record of George MOTHERSHEAD's marriage in Feb 1891 to my ggrandmother Eva PRUITT (?), which may show witnesses or other information about their families. -Confirmation that JoAnn's John MOTHERSHEAD and Ann MURRELL were in De Soto (as opposed to elsewhere in Jefferson County) in Sept 1866 at the time of George's birth (maybe they owned property there?) I have posted more information on George and his children on the Jefferson Co. MO Board at Rootsweb. Incidentally, my George MOTHERSHEAD family is the one about whose family "m. benson" posted a listing on January 20 2001 when she found them on the 1920 Weld County (Colorado) census while researching another line. Thank you for any help! Susan Thomas

    1. [MOJEFFER] MOTHERSHEAD, George, b. 21 or 22 Sept 1866 "DeSota"
    2. George MOTHERSHEAD is my ggrandfather on my mother's side. His death certificate, issued in Weld Co, CO at his death on 29 Nov 1939, lists the following information (supplied by his widow Eva): Date of Birth: September 22, 1866 Birthplace: De Sota, Missouri Name of Father: John Mothershead, born in Missouri Name of Mother: Ann Merle, born in Missouri I believe that "De Sota" is De Soto and that "Merle" is MURRELL. Am still working to confirm that George is the same George that is the son of John Mothershead (b. Feb. 1832, son of Clifton Mothershead, b. 1800 Kentucky). My ggrandfather married Eva(angeline) (PRUITT?) in Feb 1891 in St. Clair. All the following children were born in St. Clair. In 1913, George and Eva and the seven surviving children listed below moved to Weld Co, CO. James Thomas "Tom" (b. 4 Jan 1892,) m. Edith WALES on 3 May 1914; Altha Lee "Tat", my grandmother (b. 8 Nov 1898), m. first Emil FREDERIKSEN in Feb 1891 in St. Clair, then Hugh MOCK in Jan 1935 in Colorado; Charlotte Mae "Lottie" (b. 3 Feb. 1901); Nicholas Dean "Nick" (b. 24 May 1903), m. Bernice ??, then Lillian ?? after her death; Lois "Lovey" (b. 10 May 1906) m. Gordon CAMERON; Rachael "Rae" (b. Oct or Nov 1908), m. Ed HARRINGTON; Pearl Irene (b. 1911), m. Ken MCMILLIAN, then m. Larry STEWART. This generation has died. I would like to correspond with descendants or anyone else researching this line. Helpful to me: Confirmation that John MOTHERSHEAD and wife Ann were living in DeSoto in Sept 1866 when George was born; any "Della," in the line, as Altha Lee had a "cousin Della," and any record of George's and Eva's marriage, possibly with witnesses from either of their families.
