Hello, I was planning to bring my family to Kimmswick, MO, for the festivities this weekend. I'm having trouble finding info on the internet. Could someone point me to a good website or email me a list of activities or special events (re-inactments, etc.) that I won't want to miss. Thanks! Am at a loss as to pedigree and history of each of these individuals: James Franklin HENDRICKSON is my gg grandfather Joseph ADAMS (Nancy Joseph's mother, Augustus his - probable- brother) and Amanda Ellen MOSS were my ggg grandparents (William Moss - b. 1770 was her father, Judith THOMAS (dau. of Capt. Mark Thomas, my gggg grandfather) was her mother. Just some of my questions... --who were James Franklin Hendrickson's parents? was Richard his father? how does the early pioneer William Hendrickson fit in? the Hendrickson's have always had large families - who were JF's siblings/their families? how does the Rankin family fit into the picture? where did the Hendrickson's come from prior to landing in MO? and before then - when did they first immigrate and from where? --who WAS Joseph's father and what was his mother's maiden name? where did they come from originally? did she ever remarry? is there any truth to the family story linking the family to the Adam's presidents? --WHY was William Moss referred to as Captain, yet there is no evidence that he ever was? who were his parents? what was his wife's name? when did the family immigrate? --what was the maiden name of Ann, Capt. Thomas' 1st wife and what was the name of his 2nd wife? why did he exclude his first family from his will? who were his parents? etc :-) Would appreciate any info on parents, spouses, siblings, collateral lines, family history, migration - any and all help is much appreciated. where could I find an immigration list of the 1840s into Jefferson county Mo.? They left Bordeaux France in 1840 , and then They are in the 1840 census of the Big River Township of Jefferson Co. I thought that They were in Canada , for several years , Their names are John Roque and Eugenia (Bernadette) Roque with one daughter CORA . CORA was born in 1833 and they left France when She was 7 years old , so They must have came straight here , unless They went to Canada , and then just walked across the border Thank You ; Karl Roussin

Hi Karen, Henry PRUITT, etc., is listed in the following Big River Twp., Jefferson Co.,MO census records - 1850 family 144, 1860 family 838, 1870 family 234, 1880 family 329 at which time a male Fidelo aged 7 is listed, I suggest that this is your Dealo. B
Someone was looking for infro on Frey. Have the 1860 census from Jefferson Co. if you need it. Lloyd
My g-grandfather was Dealo Pruitt (b. 29 Dec 1874 in Jefferson Co., MO). His marriage license indicates his parents were Henry and Sarah Pruitt. In the 1860 census for Big River Twp. there is a Henry and Sarah Pruitt; however, in the 1870 census (four years before Dealo was born) there is no record of Henry and Sarah Pruitt. I am wondering if they are the parents of Dealo. Family lore says that Sarah died giving birth to Dealo, and Henry died shortly thereafter. I sure would like to confirm whether the Henry & Sarah Pruitt in the 1860 census are Dealo's parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Dave, Just a suggestion: If you post this to the KIRN/KERN; JENKINS and RACINE family message boards at Genforum.com (now part of Ancestry.com) you will most likely reach anyone interested in this information (who is on-line), even ones who don't know that they have a connection to Jefferson County, MO. I have come across two more adoption deeds for Jefferson County Missouri; The first recorded in Book 25 at page 466, on September 3rd, 1884, Hamilton A. Jenkins of Jefferson County, adopts Nellie Kirn (a minor aged 8 years) of Jefferson County, this is a standard "Deed of Adoption" Second recorded in Book 25 at page 467, the next page, on September 3rd, 1884, August Racine of Jefferson County, adopts Carrie Kirn (a minor aged 6 years) of Jefferson County, this is a standard "Deed of Adoption" They were adopted on the same day. The Kirn family was from Jefferson County as per deed however I did not find a listing of them in the cemetery records. They probably lived in the vicinity of the Jenkins and Racine families or were relatives of these families, although this is a guess. Hope this helps someone out there. If anyone knows where to pass this info to an adoption site please do so. Thanks. Dave Hallemann Sleuth@cat2.com <mailto:Sleuth@cat2.com>

I posted this to the Jefferson County message board, but, wanted to share it with the list. Also, I have the microfilm for the 1911-1914 Jefferson Democrat for another week if anyone has an obit, etc. that they want me to look for. MCP >From the Sept 9, 1913 'Jefferson Democrat' Newspaper, Hillsboro, MO Fifty years ago courts were held in the old court house, near the site of the present school house, and steps were being taken to build a new temple of justice on the site of Mrs. Steen's hotel. That hotel, in 1863, consisted of a lot of one-story rooms covering considerable space. Amor made his advent into the town about that time and married Mrs. Ed Hoeken, and he and his wife ran a store, saloon and hotel on the block across the street from the Jefferson Hotel; Abner Green, James A Beal, Sam Hendrickson and John L Thomas were the lawyers then at Hillsboro. We had only a weekly mail from Victoria and no hack service at all. When we wanted to go to St. Louis we hired a two-horse farm wagon to take us to Vicortia or else rode down horseback, taking a boy along to return with the horse. There was no newspaper nearer than St. Louis. Elias F Honey was circuit clerk and recorde, and S.A. Reppy county clerk. We then had no probate court, probate business being done in the county court. The population of Hillsboro that year was less than a hundred and the taxable wealth did not exceed $6000. Joe Hoeken is the only one, I think, who was in Hillsboro then who still lives there. Mrs. Thomas says Mrs. Williams and daughter, now in the town, were there in 1863. John H Reppy was born in Hillsboro in 1863. JOHN L THOMAS Washington D.C. I just wanted to share something with the list that I have found to be very helpful. Recently, I went on a "research trip" to Pulaski, Washington and Jefferson Counties, MO. I was searching for information on a family named MILLER. William Miller married my great Aunt, Elizabeth Ann JACKSON. I thought William MILLER was buried in the Hazelgreen Cemetery, (a CLUE from familysearch.com) and so I went to Hazelgreen Cemetery and sure enough I found William's final resting place. I wrote a note explaining who I was and what I was searching for, then I placed the note inside a plastic sandwich bag, sealed it tight and using a small strip of velcro, attached it close to the bottom of the tombstone. Today, I received a letter from the grand daughter of William's brother, Charles. She enclosed the names, b-dates and d-dates of William MILLER's siblings. Her aunt is 91 years old and takes care of the graves at the cemetery and she found my note. So if anyone is going to pay their respects at their ancestor's graves, think about leaving a note, in a conspicuous place, but DO NOT attach it where you will noticeably mar the tombstone. Good Luck. Mary marykell@aol.com
Looking for any information on my great plus grandparents Thomas Walter Mattox, b. MD and Elizabeth A. Jones b. abt. 1828 in TN (according to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census) married abt. 1846. They lived in St. Louis/Lewis Township 1850 and 1860 Census. Shortly after the Civil War Thomas died and Elizabeth went to Crawford Co, Missouri to live with her son William Mattox. She shows up in his house in the 1870 Census with four of her children. By the 1880 Census she has married a William Adair. Have been told by family that they some of their children and grandchilden lived at one time in Jefferson Co. Any leads appreciated. Thanks. The Franklin County Historical Society will be hosting the First Annual FCHS Picnic and History Fair on Sunday, September 9, 2001 at 2 pm. We are inviting all of the area societies to attend, including those beyond Franklin County borders, and to set up a table (which they supply -- card tables suggested unless they have a LOT of stuff) and bring whatever books, postcards, videos, or other items they may have to sell and to bring newsletters and membership information to distribute as well. Gary Lucy, well-known area artist who has done numerous historical paintings of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and of riverboats as well, will be our guest speaker. He will focus on his extensive research into the Lewis and Clark expedition. This is a rare opportunity to hear Lucy speak. There will be a catered lunch at 2 for $8 per person, payable in advance to FCHS, P. O. Box 293, Union, MO 63084. Contact society president Sue Cooley scooley@worldnet.att.net or 636-629-4851 for more information. This event will be held in the large covered pavillion behind the St. John's Mantels UCC Church on Highway A between Union and Washington, Missouri. It should be noted that Highway A runs parallel to Highway 47. From the Union intersection of 50 and 47, take 47 north towards Washington, but turn left onto Highway A at the third traffic signal (still Union) and make a right when Highway A turns right. Continue to the Mantels Church Road on the right (after the cemetery on the left). If coming from Washington, take Highway A south off of Hwy 100 to Mantels Church Road on the left. The church sits back from Hwy A quite a ways. The Franklin County Historical Society Museum is in the old parsonage next door. Please come!
