    2. Desoto Joe
    3. I have had problems with my PC the last few days. I took it apart & performed some maintenance on it & now it appears to be fine. The only problem is, before I did this, my inbox was wiped clean of posts sent to me. If anyone sent me a request or post & I did not put it in a separate folder, it is gone. So please contact me with anything you feel I may have had wiped. I had the service records of John Butcher & now they are gone. I believe I still have the persons address that I copied & printed, but I have to search my files. Sometimes not backing up in a timely fashion will teach one a lesson. Desoto Joe/The Record Man

    3. If anyone is interested in taking over as the administrator of the Missouri Survey and Virtual Cemetery website, please contact Tammie Chada at tchada@tanet.net Tammie takes care of MANY sites & now she & her husband are taking over as administers of a State Archives site. She must turn over this much needed resource to someone who can dedicate the quality time the site deserves. I cannot do it because between work & research, I would never have the time to properly keep it up. I feel that I'm doing more good by being in the field & transcribing. If you're interested, the site is http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocemete/mocem.htm I am posting this here, because I know there are dedicated people on this list with talent to administer the site. I would also like someone who is Jefferson County friendly to run it ;~) Desoto Joe/The Record Man

    1. [MOJEFFER] McCormic
    2. Mike Flannigan
    3. I have a question for anybody that is a Plattin expert. I am looking for the location of McCormic, which may be the wrong spelling. I know it is basically synonymous with Plattin Station, but I don't know if these "towns" were north or south of present day Plattin. I suspect they were right where present day Plattin is, and Plattin used to be on the east side of Plattin creek, but I'm not sure about this. Can anybody confirm this? Another possiblilty is down McCormick Mine which was 1.25 miles S of present day Plattin, but this is off the RR. I also wonder if this should be spelled McCormack, as in McCormack Cemetery, which is SE of Old Plattin Church. Mike Flannigan

    2. I am looking for anything at all about the death of my great-grandfather. He was 39 and was a brakeman. He died in 1904. Are there any obituaries from that time period in DeSoto? We don't have any family information of any illness, and we think it must have been an accidental death. Thanks, Chris

    1. [MOJEFFER] New clue/surname PART II
    2. Marianne Pyeatt
    3. I am SOOOOO excited. I was reviewing the estate papers from the estate of John Piatt who died in Jefferson County, MO, cDec 1827. It is about 55 pages of receipts, accountings, bonds, etc. Anyway, I noticed that when the add was placed in the St Louis Times in 1832 for the final settlement that it read "Received of Benjamin Pyeatt by the hands of WILLIAMS INKS four dollars". Now, I kept staring at the name 'Inks' as it looked really familiar - like I had studied it recently and it dawned on me - that my Julie/Juke/Julic/etc that I emailed about a few days ago (Olive Juke' as mother of William D Pyeatt on his death certificate) could be INKS!!!! So, now, what does anyone know about William Inks in Jefferson County (and his connection to Olivia McClure Pyeatt) or a PYEATT/INKS connection elsewhere. Thanks!! 2. Does anyone KNOW when Catholicism ended as the 'state religion' in MO? BTW, my Jefferson Co MO relatives (Wilcox) had baptisim records in a Ste. Genevieve MO Catholic church for children born ca 1819 and 10 years beyond. No other evidence that they were Catholic though. 3. Marianne, Have you tried the online marriage records for the St. Joachim Catholic Church in Old Mines? It's located in Washington County, but not far from the Jefferson County line. I believe a lot of Jefferson County and St. Francois County residents were married there as well. In fact, I had a great-grandmother from Jefferson County who was married in that Catholic Church. The records online are from 1821-1899. Here's the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mowashin/joachim-m.html Also, the marriage records of St. James Catholic Church in Washington County are online as well for period 1827-1904. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mowashin/james-m.html The baptism records for both these churches are also online, as well as burial records for St. James. Good luck! 3. Does anyone have experience in locating Catholic Church records? It occurred to me the other day that if anyone who received a Spanish Land Grant had to swear to be a good Catholic, that they might also register the births of their children, etc., with the Catholic church. Does anyone know if this was done? Where could I get information on c1790-1815 Catholic registrations for the Jefferson/St. Louis area? 1. [MOJEFFER] Another clue/surname?
    2. Marianne Pyeatt
    3. I received today the death certificate of William D(udley) Pyeatt who died March 4, 1912 in Plattin Twp, Jefferson Co, MO. His date and place of birth are given as Feb 4, 1831 and St. Louis, Mo. His father's name and place of birth are given as Jacob Pyeatt and St. Louis, Mo. (both 'fit' other information). His mother's maiden name and place of birth are given as Olive Juki or Juke' or Julie or Julic and St. Louis, Mo. (our information is Olivia McClure, d/o Andrew, born Kentucky). The informant is Diana Pyeatt of Plattin, MO (his widow) Burial in Charter Cemetery. Undertaker is T S Byrd. So, is this 'Julic/Juke' name a middle name or surname? Do any of the possible spelling looks familiar to anyone in Jefferson County or the various Pyeatt/Piatt lines? Does anyone in Jefferson County know anything about T S Byrd? One of William and Diana's sons was named Washington Byrd Pyeatt and I've always thought that it was due to a family connection. This could be a brother-in-law, nephew, etc. Finally! Some new clues!!
