Joplin Globe Thursday Feb 8 1945 Jerry M Thickston, Shoe Salesman, Dies Jerry M Thickston, 75(?) years old, 2003 Sergeant avenue, died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon in Freeman hospital, following an illness of 10 days. Born in Illinois, Mr Thickston had lived in Joplin 40 years. During the early mining days in this vicinity he operated mines near Bellville. Later he was employed several years as a shoe salesman. He was a member of the Connor Avenue Baptist church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Lona Thickston of the home, and a niece, Staff Sergeant Vera Ware of the WAC, stationed with the army air forces at Santa Maria Calif. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Hurlbut Undertaking Company.
