Hi Rose, Yes, the Osage Indians were in that area, but not just S.W. Missouri. Check a map for Jasper Co., MO. Jasper Co., MO. is next to Cherokee & Crawford counties of KS. South of Jasper you would find Newton and McDonald counties of MO., and just to the west you would be in Ottawa and Delaware counties of OK. And remember that Oklahoma was the original Indian Territory. East of Newton and McDonald counties of MO. you would find Lawrence and Barry counties of MO. South of McDonald and Barry counties of MO. you would find Benton and Carroll counties of AR. So you better be looking over the borders of all these counties even when it is over the state line. I know one gal from church whose mother was a mixture of several Indian tribes. She came from Miami, Ottawa Co., OK. The Handybook for Genealogists is quite interesting at this point. Ottawa Co., OK. created in 1907 - parent county = Indian Terr. Delaware Co., OK. created in 1907 - parent county = Cherokee Lands Adair Co., OK. created in 1907 - parent county = Cherokee Lands Different OK. counties came from different Indian tribe lands. But down in Arkansas that is not the case. Have you tried to google Osaga or Native American tribes? Can anyone else give Rose a suggestion? Sultana was indian. I dont know what tribe, but in reading the history of barry co, it says the Osage were there. I have no idea when they came but on the BLM it shows them in Jasper early. I wish I knew how to spell the sons name. A lady in Purdy MO pronounced it Puebla, but I can only guess at best. Thank you Kay. I have no clue where to look. If she disappeared, she might not have wanted to be found and her son might have gone by another name other than adams. Willis looked for her for a long time and could not find them. Willis had lived for a while in Pawnee OK, I dont know where he met her but am thinking that it was in Jasper since they got married ther, maybe her folks were there. Oh, and thanks for the ideas on the tribes.
