    1. Re: [MOJASPER] Marriages in Carthage or Joplin, Census look up for 1880
    2. I posted the fact that I found my parents marriage because of I accidently found their marriage license in my own home and they were married actually in Vinita, Oklahoma. This was in 1930. In your information post speaking of the idea of surrounding counties and towns being "marriage mills", just as in California many turn to Nevada, especially Las Vegas, can you tell me how far back your statement would apply. I mean, was it the norm back in the 1800's or started after the turn of the century, or even later into the 1910's or 20's? I also would suppose that where they "fled to" to get married was always across the state line due to more relaxed marriage laws rather than to another county in Missouri? I need to find another one I am having difficulty with. 3. In going through old Cherokee Nation marriages as well as early statehood marriages we have found people from all over the U.S. coming to the area to marry. Seems they would catch the train and come to Indian Territory or the new state to marry--be it an elopement, for the romance of being married in Indian country, or whatever reason they might have. We have them from as far away as New York and PA.
