Sharon>> I have a copy of the 1876 Atlas Map, Jasper County, MO, and it shows Galena Township just west of Joplin Township. So it was there in 1876; however, can't offer any info on 1870. Now re: Allen Dixon, I have some info on Judge Dixon. My mother's sister Nancy Hope MILLER, married Chester (Chet) DIXON, a son of Allen Dixon. Allen owned land in sections 21 and 28 of Township 28 North, Range 33 West in 1876 and I know that Chet owned land in section 21 when I was growing up in the 30's and 40's.
