I wonder if anyone is researching surname Williams in Joplin area? Bernie L. worked for gas company and his father's brother (James R. nicknamed "Pete") supposedly killed his wife in Joplin - caught her in bed with another man. James R.ran off never to be seen again. The elder Williams family, James L. and Effie, settled in Scott County, AR area 1880 census however sons roamed the area. Sons names were Nathan H., his sons were Alfred, Bernie, Chester. Could have worked strip mines over into OK. Have been thinking about coming to the area - does one library have more than another in Joplin such as city directory? I have no idea of dates included.
