Hi list members, I'm new to this list. I recently found information on my great great grandfather George L. Wilson. He lived in Webb City and work as a blacksmith. He is listed as the prop. of the Jockey Club Shoeing Shop in the Carterville and Webb City Business Directory of 1901. Would anyone know how I would go about finding information about George's shop, if there were any photo's or newspaper articles written or how long he had the shop. I'm also trying to find my great great grandmother Amanda E. Wilson, George's wife. She died before 1900 but I haven't found when she died or where she was buried. All I know is that she died of "Fever". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Roberta Hall
For newspaper articles, you might look in the books "Southwest Missouri newspaper abstracts" by Ruth E. Browning. There are several volumes and each one has a surname index. These are available from the Family History Ceneter at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The catalogue is online at http://www.familysearch.org/ I also saw these books in the library in Cassville. I'd imagine they'd have them in Joplin, and other libraries, too. There are also microfilms of newspapers at the Missouri Historical Society in Columbia. I haven't visited them yet, but I've gotten newspaper microfilms from them via Interlibrary Loan at my local library. They will also print articles for you if you can give them an exact date and page number for the newspaper. They also have a publication listing all the newspapers they have (unfortunately this is not online, but you can buy it for $14.) The State Historical Society of Missouri has a website at: http://www.system.missouri.edu/shs/ - Heather On Sun, 14 Jul 2002, John Hall wrote: > Hi list members, > I'm new to this list. > > I recently found information on my great great grandfather George L. Thank you Heather, I will check into these sites. I live in Chicago so I would have to do the interlibrary loan route or even the LDS catalogue. Thanks again Roberta ----- Original Message ----- From: "heather e blair" <h431@midway.uchicago.edu> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 8:27 AM Subject: Re: [MOJASPER] George L.
