Thanks to all for the information. I've found that the townships listed in the 1870 census include Centre Creek, Georgia, Jackson, Jasper, Marion, McDonald Mineral North Fork, Preston and Sarcoxic. There are quite a few that don't show up on the map from 1876 ( Centre Creek, Georgia & North Fork) and those that don't show up on the census (Sheridan, Lincoln, Twin Grove, Madison, Galena, Joplin and Union). Somewhere between 1870 and 1876 some names changed I guess. I will keep looking for what Joplin Twp may have been called. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ned72@webtv.net> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2002 12:41 AM Subject: Re: [MOJASPER] Joplin Township? > "The Heritage County Atlas Reprints Volume 6, An Illustrated Historical > Atlas Map of Jasper County, Mo" Published by Brink, McDonough & Co, 1876 > shows that there was a Joplin Township in 1876.
