There are a number of Hickmans on the 1879 Plat Book which can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~judysstuff/lawatlas.htm I would suggest it is Mount Vernon Township you are seeking, not Mount Vernon, the town, which is located within Mount Vernon Township.
