My gggrandfather, Josephus S. Wilson died 11 Feb 1917 in Carterville. Is there some place I can check for an obit for him - preferably on line as I live in California? There isn't anywhere online that I know has many obituaries that far back. However, you can contact libraries and/or genealogical societies via telephone, email, or snail mail and ask them to check their newspaper microfilms. A couple of places you can check first, in the event it might be there are: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mojasper/ http://www.geocities.com/ptbelair/ If you haven't already found it, you can obtain his death certificate here. I usually only enter Surname and County, then check for others. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ Missouri Death Certificates, 1910 1956 Joseph S.
