My husband's great grandfather, William Howard Cloe, lived in Jasper County, MO and built the little town of Fidelity, where there is a cemetery still being used to this date. He also had the Hickeys as neighbors during the civil war. After his 4th wife, Emily Truelove Cloe died from complications giving birth to her fifth child, he later married his 5th wife, Mary Berry Liggett Hickey. She was married to a Michael Hickey and had three sons who were killed during the civil war. Would like any information on Michael Hickey. What did he die from, when and where, etc.?? William Howard Cloe was taken in by the South to prison because of his elderly age to help protect him. He was taken to Arkansas and the word was out that he had died and his family thought he was dead. Mary Hickey Cloe house was burned out by the Kansas Militia and they started walking to Arkansas then to Sherman, TX. The story goes that Great Grandfather Cloe was bad sick but did survive and went to Texas to find his wife and kids in 1865 before the war was over. After the war was over they tried to get back to Missouri where their land was but the north didn't sympathize with the southerns and was still killing and burning people out. They got back as far as Centerton, Benton County, AR. My husband and I went to the Jasper County courthouse and found records where their land was sold at a sheriff sale to pay the taxes. They never went back! Both William and Mary are buried in the Bentonville Cemetery in Bentonville, AR.
