He worked as an ore shoveler. Small article on page 9. Same paper for 12/18/1913 page 9 gives results of coroner's inquest. He was not hit by a falling boulder as reported, but was hit by a boulder thrown by a blast to break up rocks. This blast was in another drift and he thought he was protected. Sounds fishy to me. I would expect that the blast caused a rock to fall from the ceiling in the area where he was working and it conked him. Accidents like this were very common and did not make much of a headline.
