Hi Ellen! Volney H. Fullerton, age 10 is on the 1870 census with his dad, Jesse H. Fullerton and some siblings. He's also on the 1880 census in his brother James H. Fullerton's household. I have a note that Gordon Fullerton said that Volney died in 1889 after being bitten by a rabid dog. He says Volney was born in 1856, but I think 1860 is more like it. I was bad and didn't write down the page number of Mr. Fullerton's book. It might be vol. 2, Pennsylvania Clan #022MT-1A p. 15-6 of the 1995 edition. I'll bet he was named after his uncle, Volney Hinton. And his nephew, Volney Motley, is named after him, I'll bet. I wonder if there were any other Volneys around, and whether any of Jesse's sons had a son named Volney Fullerton who might be the man in the picture.
