This Smith family basically comes from Phelps County, MO. One of the Vernon Smiths was born in Flat, Phelps MO 5 Aug 1886 and died 29 Oct 1981 in Galena, Cherokee Co KS. There are some others but I haven't got my surnames and first names indexed by alphabet yet. Anybody in your family from OK, Paris, Lamar County,Texas or Missouri or Kansas?

I am looking for a Virgil Smith (b abt 1859 MO ) married to Isabelle (Belle) Hostetter (b abt 1857 IN). They were living in Jasper Co in the 1880 census, no children. She passed away in 1899 and I can't seem to find Virgil in the 1900 census. I am wondering if there may be a connection to your Vernon? I haven't determined if they had children during the 19 years after the 1880 census and her death.
