Hi Orlena, I appreciate all the help you have/are giving to people on the list, and do realize that just because it says someone passed away in Joplin, doesn't really mean that, BUT...the funeral homes are a very good place to start. If they didn't handle the arrangements, sometimes they have information as to exactly WHO DID. And the funeral homes in Joplin, Webb City, and also in Neosho and even Pittsburg, Kansas, ....where I am from originally, have been very helpful to me. A lot of people don't even think of checking with funeral homes, and I didn't either, when I started this hobby/obsession called genealogy, back in the late 1980s. But a friend, who happened to be a funeral director, overheard me talking one evening about getting an obit from down around that area, and it was he who suggested using the funeral records. He told me that the obit is usually taken from the funeral record, but that there is USUALLY more genealogical information contained in the funeral record than can be printed in an obit. And, I've found that to be true in a lot of cases! That is why I always suggest checking www.funeralnet.com. It has funeral home listings from around the World, and I've found that most funeral homes are very helpful when it comes to working on a family tree. I do want to thank you for all the help you have given me, and also others on this list! ciao!
