Orlena... I believe that what you say is very informative for people who do not live in the Four-State area and are not familiar with the fact that Joplin is the shopping/medical metropolis for the SE corner of Kansas, the NE corner of Oklahoma, the NW corner of Arkansas and the SW corner of Missouri. Growing up in SE Kansas demonstrated this to me from childhood. We shopped in Joplin, our TV stations were in Pittsburg and Joplin and more importantly, should we need surgical or trauma care, we were taken to St John's Hospital in Joplin. I know about Freeman's Hosp, but am not as familiar with their services. Several members of my family passed away at St John's, but their homes and burial places were in SE Kansas communities, such as Cherokee Co, Labette Co, Montgomery Co, Wilson Co and Crawford Co in Kansas, just as you stated, and the funeral homes that provided the services were from the home communities. I did not even know until I began doing genealogy that Joplin is in both Jasper and Newton Counties. Amazed me. Thanks for your post bringing this information to the attention of the people who live out of the area. Jan, Sometimes it seems to take forever to get some facts out so they will be considered in searches for information. I backed away from a site for a long time, because of all the mistakes. It had/has such potential to be of great help but there is no way to keep up with all the people who post incorrectly. http://www.findagrave.com They [FAG] are back to trying to get corrections made. They have volunteers who are called County Keepers and they sign up to report mistakes to a specific person and go to group discussions to report errors out of their county. We are not allowed to make any corrections ourselves. Which really slows it down in some cases. http://www.findagrave.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=558627&an=0&page=0#558627 http://www.findagrave.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=571074&an=0&page=0#571074 For example, Cherokee County Kansas http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty=894 DARN! I see someone has added a Weakley cemetery, that as far as I know does not exist, at least under that name. It might have been Pence Cemetery, but wasn't. In fact, the people are buried in Hill Crest Cemetery in Galena. Would you believe they have been placed in the correct cemetery, by the same person who added the incorrect cemetery to hold them? She doesn't usually mess up that bad. Now, I'll have to send an email asking for all of Weakley cemetery to be deleted. The last corrections I sent weren't done, so I'll have to see if I can find that email and resend it. Anyway, back to my point. I'd tried to add a burial for a person who died in Joplin, Newton County and they didn't have anything but Joplin, Jasper County. I didn't add it because I refuse to add incorrect information. I'm betting others weren't so conscientious. It took me quite a while, even after they started trusting me to know what I was saying, to get Joplin with the correct options. There are a lot of places with situations like that. I'm told there's one large cemetery in MO in three counties. I know of some in two counties and one in Newton County is in 2 States, MO and OK. As far as I know, I've not taken the time to read all the messages, neither Jasper or Newton Counties has a Keeper. I've gone to group discussions from time to time and requested corrections. In some cases, they are very obvious and easy, in others, it takes time and effort to be sure I'm giving the correct information, while correcting the incorrect. They now have a great new program that you all may want to make use of also. Request a photo http://www.findagrave.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=566440&an=0&page=0#566440 http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=1973625&CScn=Paradise&CScntry=4&CSst=26& Paradise Cemetery has a request for a photo for it. It also needs a correction made as it's been listed twice. I have to go to group discussions to do it. Would anyone who really knows the area like to volunteer to be it's Jasper County's Keeper? http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=30733&CScn=Paradise&CScntry=4&CSst=26& He would like a photo/photo's of this grave. I assume it/they could just be posted here. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=11632566 I've got to go eat now. Thanks to all of you who keep answering queries, and thanks to all of you who trust us to answer them correctly. Orlena ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jan Lopez <[email protected]> wrote: Orlena... And, my step-grandmother worked at St. Johns most of her life. I have photos I took of the St. Johns building Oct 2002.
