    3. Did you get "All" his Civil War record envelope file, or just the ones they picked for the price you paid? If so, you may just not have gotten the info that you wanted. I don't have a lot of them, but I bought the entire file, which included everything even all the scrap paper, back when they weren't as expensive as they are now. I bought one entire file and I could tell I hadn't gotten it all while reading, then by putting it together page by numbered page. I wrote back asking for everything I hadn't got, but had paid for. I'd paid over $50.00 and got little info of any value. I wasn't able to get them to give it all to me, they claimed to not be able to find the rest, I finally had to give up. I did however get something on one page they'd sent. Up to that point I'd gotten nothing prior to the War and his marriage, but all the marriage information was there. I still have no idea if he's a relative of mine or my step great great grandmother. I have a few photographs of him from an old photo album. Anyway, every file I bought had the information for every marriage, sometimes conflicting info from different filing times, which still asked the same questions. It even had the marriages of his widow when she drew his pension after having later married twice. They had the info on the children dead and alive, but again it was often different from one application to the next. I may be wrong, but I believe only minor children needed to be accounted for in the records. Once they have no rights to support they didn't need to still be listed. I'm no longer up on the facts about the records. There can be much confusion of names, dates and birth orders especially as the applicant ages. I have death dates, with cemeteries, but am unable to find any records to support the info. This is after Death Certificates were required. I will say the State of Oklahoma tried... I think they sent me everything that was remotely close. Obituaries? Just take a look at some of todays. People die, but apparently were never born. There is no birthdate, place or parents. Some don't even give a death date or place. The women (generally speaking) may have a number of sons with different surnames, sometimes including their own maiden name. There is no mention of husbands. Their daughters will still be using their maiden or other names, but most of the male grandchildren will have yet other surnames. It's also the same with some men, they'll have a number of sons with different surnames NOT including their own. Nothing in the obits accounts for it. I read and wonder! Obituaries can be full of incorrect information especially in the old days, when they were written by/for the local newspaper without any info from the family. I have one with the deceased's given name entirely incorrect! I had one, the deceased's name was the only thing correct. I have obituaries of people I knew, and they are absolutely confusing and actually incorrect, but some one of the family gave the info and it was published. It's possible you may be able to find an obituary for him via the newspaper. The Carterville City Hall, I believe, has cemetery records to tell you if anyone else of his surname is buried in the cemetery. If you think some are buried under different surnames, they should be able to check them also. If you know his wive's names check WorldConnect to see if anyone has them in a family tree without knowing about him or with his name incorrect. Also check www.familysearch.org. Do you know which State, if not MO, he married in, check them for online records. I suggest you contact the researchers on WorldConnect, with some information from you, they may realize they know, or have more information than they think. I've been trying to find information on what happened to his second wife and the kids from that marriage. He seems to have just walked away from his first family - three boys and a girl. His wife died in Childbirth and he put the kids with their maternal grandparents and moved on. In his Civil War records he doesn't even mention his first wife, but does at least mention the kids! I was hoping an obituary might have more information on his second family. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it! -------------------------------
