In the Oct. 6, 1922 Carl Junction Standard there is an article about an explosion at the General Explosive Co. located between Carl Junction and Joplin. The plant was owned by the Spiva family at the time. "Three explosions occurred at the General Explosive Co. early Wednesday morning, killing 3 men" Another article dated April 27, 1923 from the Standard said "Another Fatal Explosion" Just before 9 o'clock, Wednesday morning, one of the gelatin mix houses of the General Explosives Co., exploded glowing two workmen to atoms and almost caught the third party. Du Pont purchased this plant in August of 1924.
