Forwarding to the MOJASPER list - got the address wrong on the original. Oops. Sorry. Tired. Marie -------Original Message------- From: mstephen Date: 12/02/07 11:24:45 To: MOJASPER-L-request@rootsweb.com; stlouis-mo@rootsweb.com Subject: [STLOUIS-MO] Nettie RIDDLESBARGER and Geo. W. READ - St. Louis &Carthage My Nettie RIDDLESBARGER seems to have kept her name Nettie (I was earlier wondering if it were really Jeanette). I have found that she married Geo. W. Read probably in St. Louis, probably in either 1883 or 1884. She is with her mother Susan Riddlesbarger in the 1880 St. Louis census in June and then they (incorrectly written as Riddlesbacher) are with her sister Emma Barrere (incorrectly written as Barrera) and husband in the November census 1880. I have found Nettie and Geo. in the 1910 St. Louis census as well as the 1920 St. Louis census. Nettie Price Read died in St. Louis in 1922. I have printed out her death certificate. I have found Geo. W. Read of Carthage as President of the Missouri Division of the Railway Agents' Association at least in 1893. Information gleaned from an article written in 1929 based on an interview with Nettie's sister Fannie (Frances Adkins Riddlesbarger Schafer) says that after the death of the mother Susan Riddlesbarger in 1884 Fannie went with her sister and husband to Carthage, where Fannie grew up, met and married Pierre Schafer. Now, my questions and requests for help. I cannot find Nettie and Geo. Read in the 1900 census. Can anyone help there? I can't find them in St. Louis, and I can't find them in Jasper County. I cannot yet find Nettie and Geo. W. Read's marriage. This I believe was in St. Louis and is outside of the online searchables. I have the LDS film numbers for St. Louis marriages. Does anyone have access to these without ordering them in? Does anyone go to the local Family History Center which keeps these on site and could look in them? I can order in the ones I need so as to print copies, but if someone could please look in the indexes and tell me a marriage date I could then order in the appropriate films here. The numbers are 528151 - Index to marriages, male O-Z 1881-1911 (looking for Geo. W. Read, born in Canada about 1846 or 1847 -- also looking for Pierre G Schafer who married Nettie's sister Fannie); 528164 - Index to marriages, female O-Z 1881-1911 (looking for Nettie Riddlesbarger, born in Kansas City, Missouri to Jesse Riddlesbarger and Susan Norton Riddlesbarger; on Nettie's death certificate she is "Nettie Price Read" and I have not seen "Price" in other references to her so do not know if that is a first-married name - I don't think so, as in the 1910 census they are both M1, 26 years. Also looking for sister Fannie or Frances Adkins Riddlesbarger, same parents, born in St. Louis about 1869.) I have sister Emma's marriage in 1874 in St. Louis. City Directories - does anyone have access to city directories for St. Louis and Carthage to help me pin down when Nettie & Geo. Read were in those two places? Since I cannot find them in the 1900 census I don't know when they went back to St. Louis, where they are in 1910 as well as 1920, both years on Clara Ave. Clara Ave is also the address on Nettie's death certificate. Death notice & burial permit from St. Louis Post Dispatch -- I found that death notice and burial permit were published in the St. Louis Dispatch, 1922: Read, Nettie Price 9/18 p21, *9/20 p24 (this latter appears to be the burial permit). Can anyone find these for me and scan or copy and mail? Costs covered, of course. Replies to mstephen@bmt.net . Thank you so much for any help on the above.
