Maybe Goat Herder? That was a big farming occupation back then. Some people didn't like the goats as they ate the grass land to short for the cattle. -----Original Message----- From: mojasper-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mojasper-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2007 2:38 AM To: MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MOJASPER] Question re 1850 Census This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Can anyone tell me what "G Hunter" stands for? My first thought was Government Hunter...Then I thought because of the era Gold Hunter... ie. men gone to CA in the gold rush...but that would only explain where an absent member of a household WAS...not his occupation...Although I think that's where my GG Grandfather John PATRICK was, while his family stayed behind in Jackson Township.
