    1. Re: [MOJASPER] Carterville Record: December 1909 obituary lookup? *
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Lambendsor Surnames: SCHOENHERR Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.jasper/4840.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Here is the complete obituary from the Joplin Daily Tribune (23 Dec 1909), but I REALLY, REALLY would like another obituary (or more) to compare it to as there are a few inaccuracies in this one. Thanks! ---- PIONEER WHO CROSSED OCEAN 21 TIMES, DIES -- CHARLES SCHOENHERR CAME HERE FROM GERMANY IN 1877. -- Mason Developed Some of First Mining Land in Carterville District. -- Charles Schoenherr, 79 years old, a pioneer resident of Carterville, who crossed the Atlantic ocean twenty-one times, died yesterday at his home, No. 412 West Main Street, Carterville, after a short illness. Schoenherr was born in Burklotz, Germany. He spent a number of years as a sailor on a number of sailing vessels engaged in the trans-Atlantic trade. During the years he sailed the seas he visited many ports in Europe, Africa and America. Coming to America in 1866, he spent eleven years in cities along the Atlantic seabord, and came to Joplin in 1877, living here four years. He then moved to Carterville, where he since has lived. For years before his death he was actively interested in mining, and developed some of the first mining land of the Carterville district. He was a charter member of Joplin lodge, I. O. O. F., Canton Lincoln, and a member of A. F. & A. M. of Carterville. A wife and five children - W. F. Schoenherr of Webb City, A. S. Schoenherr of Carterville, O. H. Schoenherr of Oakland, Mrs. J. E. Pfister of Lusk, Wyo., and Oscar Schoenherr of Carterville - survive. Funeral services will be from the residence at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon under the auspices of the Masons. Burial will be made in Mount Hope cemetery. --- Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Can anyone tell me what "G Hunter" stands for? My first thought was Government Hunter...Then I thought because of the era Gold Hunter... ie. men gone to CA in the gold rush...but that would only explain where an absent member of a household WAS...not his occupation...Although I think that's where my GG Grandfather John PATRICK was, while his family stayed behind in Jackson Township.
