Band members besides Zola were 2 of her brothers: Byrtus and Pallas, along with Eddie Cox, Bruton Woods and Byron Fly. After band broke up, Bryon Fly went on to form his own band, called "The Byron Fly Tri-State Band". Mr Fly later became a judge for the Jasper Co court. Zola continued to perform in the KC area. Later in her life she resided in TN where she died in 1972. She is buried in MO. Zola had 1 more brother, Harry, and a sister, Charlotte. Sandra, I have lost your e-mail address. Please get in touch with me as I have a Betz picture that I want to send you and asked a question. Thanks, Sue
Bob - I don't need anything (don't I wish!!!). I just saw your name on the Jasper County mailing list and thought you might need to be on this Logsdon MYFamily.com website. Since you are already, I guess you are set. By the way, do you know anything about Abraham Lindsey who was married to a Elizabeth Frost. They are the parents of my Emily Lindsey who married Lewis White, my gg Grandfather. I have been told Emily was from Tennessee, and I am trying to find someone who knows about that family. The only thing I have on Emily's parents is a newspaper article about Abraham applying for a pension for his service in the Revolutionary War, and I can hardly read that. That would probably be Fair Acres Cemetery. It is located on south River St just east of the water tower. Or one mile east of the YMCA . Also you might check Cedar Hill Cemetery. Steve Weldon at the records center would be a good source for any records or information on this. I can't seem to find the phone number but if you would call 417-358-0431 they can direct you. -----Original Message----- From: mojasper-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mojasper-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Earl Sheets Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2007 5:15 AM To: MOJASPER@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOJASPER] Cemetery lookup Cuold someone please tell me which cemetery was used in the 1940's when the County was having someone buried at the Counties expence . He lived in Carterville which is about 2-3 miles from Hercules. He was a machinist there in 1946 when my fahter in law went to work there. He thought he retired abt 1950's. He recieved acid burns while trying to repair a broken acid line at the plant. As far as Doc Stailey he does not remember him . Maybe he had already left before 1946. He said that there was also a Hercules plant in Ca and maybe he worked there. Or it is early in the morning and maybe he will call me later and say I remember Doc Stailey. BUt he has a pretty good memory of all that have worked there from 1946- 1986. The man that lost his life in 1970 was Kenny Ferrer (?) . He wasn't sure how to spell the last name. Hope this helps. Any spicific question on Dick Simon you can email me and I will ask. Et Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Some have destroyed a building etc. None have compared to the major explosion in 1966. It sent a mushroom cloud so high in the afternoon sky that it shaded the town oc Carthage Mo. It looked like an atom bomb had been dropped. It was national news back then. My wife and her family were on vaction in Ca and on the beach when the news hit Ca. Her aunt ran down the beach to try and reach her parents back heree in Carthage. Her father needless to say was a reck as he was out there and couldn't get news about his parents or his co-workers at the plant. That was his shift that was working that day. Only one died as a result of going back into the shower room to get his wallet. Men were running from the plant and the explosions was blowing them over the tops of trees. What had happened was a truck that was being unloaded caught fire . Some college students that were working there for the summer we! re asked to extinguish the fire but got scared and ran. The fire got out of control. Another explosion in 1970 destryed the Nitro house. It happened abt 7 am in the morning. It shook our house and I called to see if my father in law had left for work yet. He didn't even hear the blast in town. A man fell in the mixer tank and it exploded. They found a fragment of him . So lots of smaller explosions over the years but none that wiped out the plant like the one in 1966. Atals and Hercules is about 2-3 miles apart. They thought that Atlas might explode from Hercules that day so everyone was encouraged to leave their homes and get out of town. If thw main magazine would have exploded that day it would have flattened parts of Carthage. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks so much for the one you did post. It is great. I still am wondering which explosion my great uncle was injured in, as he was burned VERY badly, survived with many surgeries and lived until 1980. He was a machinist for the Hercules Powder Co for 40 yrs, so there must be some info about his employment "some where" . . . ??? Any suggestions???
