The Adams that I know of were all in NW MO. They had Thomas relatives also who came from NC. I dont know if any Thomases or Adams were in Jasper CO. I just have a marriage license. Among his brothers there was a John "Willis" WILLIAMS who was born about 1851 probably in Washington Co., IL. "Willis" died after 1900. A niece wrote down that "Willis" married and had children; but her information has proven to contain many inaccuracies. I have no other information on "Willis" WILLIAMS. He could have lived in Jasper County, MO., other of his siblings did. Or he could have lived in eastern Washington state, for a time brother Amos did, then he returned to Jasper Co., MO. Would it not be better for us to make our remarks directly to each other? My personal ancestry is mixed: north & south, colonial & 1800's. My husband's is also mixed: colonial, & Polish/German pre-Civil War, Irish to Canada 1850's & MYERS pre-Chicago Fire. I also work on our daughter-in-law's: Scotch-Irish & colonial. I have been trying to concentrate on my Dad's lines, especially WILLIAMS which is so common. My paternal grandparents were married in Jasper Co., MO. in 1897 WILLIAMS & GAULT, but they were no longer there for the 1900 census and never returned to MO. That part of my husband's ancestry 'grew out of control' so I laid it aside. Some of his lines 'deadend' in the late 1700's. The lines which kept going were those of Joseph FISH (1784-1862)& Cynthia BARROWS, that is her father's, Lemuel BARROWS (1762-1842). Joseph FISH & Cynthia BARROWS were his GGGGrandparents. Two more generations and he has Nathaniel FISH & Mary PABODIE (PEABODY), Capt Jedidiah LATHROP & 2nd wife Jemima BIRCHARD, Noah BARROWS (1727-1784) Martha BOWEN (1734-1815) and Thomas GRANT & ???. Two more generations and he has George BARROWS (1670-1758) & Patience SIMMONS, Nathan TOBEY & 2nd wife Sarah FALLOWELL, Isaac BOWEN (1676-1727?) & Hannah WINCHESTER (1680-1717), Capt. Thomas PRENTICE (1676/77-1730) & Elizabeth JACKSON (1687-1753), Israel LOTHROP (1659-1733) & Rebecca BLISS (d. 22 Aug 1737). With all this I have worn out my brain, but I have not yet found more on the FISH line. And I do have more on FISH somewhere. Back into England and middle English spelling of names. 2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sarah Jen HOGE which was taken at the Moberly Studio in Webb City, Missouri. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Sarah Jen noted as just 3 months old at the time it was taken. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that this precious old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

It was said that there was a Huegonot on the second ship that came with the Mayflower also. One of my great grandmothers was Priscilla Mullins and a Huegonot man was smitten with her and proposed on the journey. My husbands great aunt Elsa Adams Adams Chasteen married a Howard Chasteen. He had several Chasteen cousins. They either married in CA or OK, we are not sure yet. He had a brother names Al Chasteen, I have a picture of him. He was a noted Motorcycle racer and set some records. He was dark complected. I often wondered what nationality he was. I never saw a piture of his brother, my husbands uncle Howard. I used to puzzle over the spelling of his name, but it has helped in research. But I knew it was originally spelled Chastain. They were originally driven from France in the 17th Century. Pierre Chastain was born in Switzerland and migrated to Holland and then on to Jamestown Virginia on the ship Mary and Ann where they settled on a 1000 acre tract given by Virginia to the Huguenots. They built a town called Manakin in what is now Goochland County Virginia. Beause they were French in an Anglo colony, the name Chastain was mutated into several different forms. Just looking through the index to the book "Pierre Chastain and his descendants" gives one a agood idea of how manry variations stuck. Nancy Chastain (1794-1843)is my gggrandmother and James Louis Chastain Buskett (1826-1912)is my great grandfather. 3. If it was derived from the name Chastain, as someone else suggested, then it is French Huguenot. You can read about them at this address: http://manakin.addr.com/ I have a few names of these people in my ancestry (Chastain included) and through the generations some of the spellings have been changed. J.
