I have not as yet proven it, but my mother said that she and her sister and brother were put into an orphanage after her mother died and their house burned. Apparently my grandfather wasn't able to keep a house together for them until he remarried. Near as I can tell, my mother was 11 or 12 when her mother died. I believe that the fire must have been after that, so my mother would have been about the same age as your grandmother. I think your gma could very well have been in the Home. I thought I sent the below message before, but got no reply so will try again. I lived my teenage years at 729 West Daugherty in Webb City, Jasper County MO. and drove a delivery truck for a cleaners. I thought I knew every street but cannot recall Pinchot Street, or its location, or what year the streetcars quit running. Thanks For any help. Don W., BigMo040@aol.com,

I was wondering where I could find a death certificate for my g-grandfather that passed away in June of 1909. Also, if anyone has access to census records for 1900s for Sylvanus S (S.S.) Robinson and his wife Maria & William and Dora Cunningham, I would also appreciate that info. Thanks so much, Jeanne Cunningham

Would a child of 13 still be in the Children's home? My grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth (Butterfield) Davis was 13 in June of 1900 at the Census. Her mother had died in 1895 and grandma said she'd been sent to an Aunt over in Dade County. I've searched all those census, and can't find the Aunt or my grandmother. I'm beginning to wonder if she could have been placed in the children's home, even though her father lived in Joplin, and had kept the 2 oldest children with him, farming out the other 4. I found 2 of them with the grandmother Butterfield in Dade Co., but Grandma and her youngest brother have not shown up in the Census for 1900. I DO find her in 1910 - 5 years after her marriage, and her youngest brother, by then 18 living with their father. Thanks Margaret Rollins, yoyo4233@aol.com
Debra, A member of my family Zella Ruth Craig married a Hatcher man. I am trying to find out who now. She later was married to an Eichelberger and I have written these people to find out about her. Ruth was born in 1903 and lived in Jasper County all her life. She was probably related to your folks somehow. MY will of my GF who died 1901 originated and was probated in Jasper Co. It did not list his land, which was in the city limits, in the inventory either. There were additional probate records showing that the land was sold to pay off his debts. ----- Original Message ----- From: susan lane <sbowen2@midsouth.rr.com> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [MOJASPER] Real estate not in probate records > Most of the time, land was not included in the inventory and the probate. Most of the time, land was not included in the inventory and the probate. It usually was sold for whatever the person was willing to pay or it was left directly to a person. ----- Original Message ----- From: <happygrandpa@webtv.net> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 6:16 PM Subject: [MOJASPER] Real estate not in probate records > My G-grandfather died in 1873 in Jasper County where he owned several > hundred acres of farming land. My G-grandfather died in 1873 in Jasper County where he owned several hundred acres of farming land. The inventory of his estate, with a certification and affidavit made by the administrator, lists many items, including such things as a rifle, revolver, saddle, notes, cash on hand, etc, but there is NO mention of the real estate. And yet there is a statement attesting to the fact that the "forgoing" is a full inventory and description of all moneys, good, chattels and estate, real and personal ....etc.. I just can't understand how they could ignore the acres of land. The fact that there was land in the estate was later evident in the courts because the court appointed 3 commissioners to "appraise and set out and off" the homestead for the widow and the minor children. They appraised 240 acres, however the Court of Common Pleas set of only 140 acres. Does anyone have any idea why the acreage wasn't included in the inventory? Thanks, John.
Marie, I don't know about anyone else, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with getting info from Parker mortuary on older burials. The old "St. Peter" cemetery is located behind what is now St. Mary's church & school...
