    2. This is just a possibility, but would the Methodist Bishop for that area of Missouri have the records of the Pastors assigned to that church at that date? At present the Bishop for the area is in charge of the parish assignments. Don't know if that was true then, but its worth a check. N. Eckel

Also, Carl had a brother born there, Junior Franklin Chazell, in 1918. I'm looking for any information on Theodore and Mary~ their siblings and/or parents. Note that Chazell could have been spelled differently as like with an 'e' on the end. Please~ I'm at a dead end with my g-grandparents! Thanks! Star

    3. Can't help you with the Mais name, but the ME church would most likely have been what is now the Methodist church in downtown Carthage. My gr grandparents attended church there, my grandparents were married there, and my grandmother's sister played the organ there. My gr grandmother was born in 1845 and my grandmother was born in 1866, so one (if not both) of them would certainly have known your Henry Mais. Also, coincidentally, my gr grandmother (above) was born and raised in California, MO and her grandfather was a Methodist minister who organized the first Methodist congregation in California (1840). In 1847 the congregation moved to town and worshiped in the courthouse until a church was built (1855). This was the first church built in California. By 1917 the church had been been converted into "California Machine Works." The post office now stands on the site. The chances are pretty good that our families knew each other in both California and Carthage, but I've never come across the Mais name in my research. I will have to look up who Floyd's dad was. My Johnston folks were in McDonald and Benton Co., on the border. They tied to several of the families in both counties. 3. You might try google.com/ie and type in "Hickman, James". don't use Fletcher since I've tried and it won't come up. Be sure you put quotation marks around your words or the engine would give you separate searches. google.com/ie is limited. It supposedly picks out the most important items to be found. If you want a larger search, type in "Hickman, James". Also try "James Hickman." I was born in Webb City at the old Jane Chinn Hospital. But I went into the Navy when I was sixteen and have lived outside of Missouri all my adult life. The Princess Mine's being outside of Webb City was probably in Oronogo. You might search with that name too. By the way, when miners went to the company store to buy victuals, the were told to buy with cash or ore. Supposedly, the name Oronogo comes from "Ore or no go." It's a great story. I hope it's true. I don't know how "cash" got left behind. More like than not, it was because there was so little of it around. 2. If 1879 fits your timeframe for the Hickman Homestead, Lawrence County? There are a number of Hickmans on the 1879 Plat Book which can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~judysstuff/lawatlas.htm I would suggest it is Mount Vernon Township you are seeking, not Mount Vernon, the town, which is located within Mount Vernon Township. Or, send me a message with the names you are seeking, I have the atlas and can probably provide some additional information. Bill Landers Cape Cod, MA
