    1. [MOJASPER] Strange/Teutsch Families of Joplin circa 1910-1930
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Strange, Teutsch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/2004 Message Board Post: I am seeking information about Joseph Strange(1888-1941) and Venita Teutsch (1894-?) of the Galena Township area of Joplin. Venita was the daughter of Augustus and Pollie Teutsch, who lived at 919 W. 6th Street in 1919/20. Joseph and Venita lived in the same neighborhood at 815 Chestnut Street when their daughter Anna Mary was born in May of 1915. Joseph was drafted in 1918 and appears to have been separated/divorced from Venita by 1920, when she was living with her parents. Joseph worked for the Mahatma Mine in Oakland Missouri and Venita, after their separaton, worked for the Joplin Printing Company in the bindery. I am particularly interested in the date and place they were married and in what happened to Anna Mary, who is thought to have married a Nagle and moved to California. Anna Mary was not shown in the household with her mother in 1920. The Augustus Teutsch family was still residing in Joplin when the 1930 census was taken and their widowed daughter, Nelli! e Hunter (1885-?) lived with them.

    3. Hi once again Jerry, John Riley Moss, was the son of Henry and the grandson of William Moss. He first married Caroline Ozment and his second wife was Nancy Gipson Boxley. The children you have is correct except for one born in 1872 and another born in 1875. Both died as children. Depending on what you want and where you want to go, I could extract a gedcom file and attach it for you. Also I would give you the email address of a descendent of the Thomas Peter Moss shown as the last son of John and Nancy. We share the same ancestor, William but son Henry was his line while younger brother David was my ancestor. The Moss line is my father's mother's line. He helped me quite a bit in fleshing out the Moss family. \^/ayne ----- Original Message ----- From: moosie@flash.net To: MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 9:04 AM Subject: [MOJASPER] JOHN R. 3. There were no Indian Reservations in Missouri. Could the statement have some other interpretation? Perhaps they lived on one of the reservations in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) not far from the Missouri line? Any Indians who lived in Missouri on a tribal basis left long before 1895. 3. Your question about locating newspapers with articles about your relative is easy to answer. Just ask your public library to request the Galena newspapers you need from the Kansas State Historical Society. They loan them at no charge to other libraries. For more information go to the KSHS site. Any good search engine can find it for you. If you need Missouri newspapers your local library can help you find them as well. Good luck to you!

    3. I am looking for information on the family of Elliott Leroy Foster. He went by Roy. He was born Sep 1896 in Joplin, and died 6 Feb 1936 in Galena, Cherokee, Kansas, though he was living in Carl Junction at the time. His wife was Bertha Irene Jackson, and their children are Katheryn, Sherman, Nellie, Miriam, Shirley Ann, and Richard. Bertha and the kids left MO for California around 1940. Roy's parents were William S Foster and Maggie ?? Roy's siblings were: Leona, Vernell, (Roy), Bonnie (Bony) Ola, Harold V, Abigail P, Dean E (girl), Roxie C, Freda M, and Jack M FOSTER. Does anyone have any information on this family? I know Roy died in a mining accident in Galena. There were several articles in the local papers. Does anyone know how I could locate these articles? Thank you for your help!! Tara LoundreeGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

Surnames: Britton , Walker , Taylor Kohl Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/2002.1 Message Board Post: Bob if you every get and answer to this please let me know as my mother Emma Jane Walker born July14 , 1895 I really think was born on a reservation in Missouri . She has her birth as being Joplin, Jasper CO., MO. Her father was called Dharley Walker born 1856 MI, mother unknown as she died when my mother was born. When mother wrote for her birth certificate , they told her the records we burnt and they had know record for her. But would give her a new one if she could prove her birth , so her half siter helped her get her certificate. Mother gave her mother to LDS church as Elizabeth Jane ? but that was my father's grandmother's name. I don't even know how to conferm her real name and birthdate as mother changed her name, when she applied for a new one. She changed her middle name to Evelyn. Her father was swedish and mother Cherokee we think.Father's name was Charles Russell Walker from Michigan. I can't even conferm that. Except in 1900 he was listed as Charley Walker with! a women claiming to be his wife ,but she was a cousin , and they had a daughter that they named Katie Jane Walker. Mother had 2 older brother's but they are not listed. We know this is true as one lived with mom and dad after they were married in 1915.He had fits and died from one while living with them. If we could break this brick wall we could find her family. But first need to find out about reservation in Missouri.Thank You for letting me add my search with your's . Shirley

Surnames: CROWELL, NUGENT, DAYNE, McALLISTER, COMA, ADAMS, PRATTO, MULLINIX, PIERCE Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/2001 Message Board Post: Edward A. Crowell Edward Alan Crowell of Davis died after a long illness on June 6, 2002, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 72. He was born on July 25, 1929, near Joplin, Mo., in rural Jasper County. Born to Martin E. Crowell and Blanche Fisher Crowell, he was the youngest of nine children. His father, a miner, died of black lung disease when Ed was only 2 years old. As a result, he was raised by his mother, who received much help from his older brothers and sisters. He attended Enterprise school, a two-room, two-teacher school, for his first six years of education. The family then moved to Joplin, where he finished elementary school, high school and two years at Joplin Junior College. In 1949, he and his mother moved to San Lorenzo to be near the other children of the family. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He spent the next two years in the Army and was stationed at Bethesda, Md., where he worked in a research laboratory. After being discharged at the end of the Korean War, he returned to the East Bay area and worked as a chemist. In 1957, he came to Davis and started working at UC Davis in the department of enology and viticulture, where he continued to work for the next 31 years. In 1961, he married Virginia Keith Nugent, and in 1973, he earned a master's degree in food science. He was active in the Davis Lutheran Church and became a founding member of Our Faith Lutheran Church. He served in many offices there, including president of the congregation for several terms. He probably most enjoyed being part of the groundskeeping team with some other loyal "grass mowers." He was also a member of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture and was treasurer for several years. He enjoyed children's sports events and coached a girls' softball team. He was preceded in death by sisters Lavina Adams, Daris Pratto, Faye Mullinix and Laura Pierce. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Jason Dayne of Evergreen, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law Martin and Marilou Crowell of Rogue River, Ore.; and daughter and son-in-law Amy and Don McAllister of Santa Rosa. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Stephanie and Tony Coma, Lana Dayne, and Erin, Elise and Leigh McAllister. He is also survived by his sister, Rosa Crowell; brother Eldy Crowell of Joplin; brother Barry Crowell of Bella Vista, Ark.; brother Bill Crowell of Fairfield and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at Our Faith Lutheran Church, 1801 Oak Ave., Davis. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Building Fund at Our Faith Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. (Obituary from the "The Davis Enterprise," Wednesday, June 12, 2002, (Yolo County). Submitted with the permission of the "The Davis Enterprise," 315 G Street, Davis, CA 95616, <http://www.davisenterprise.com/>. Please note: I am not related to the family listed above, and I do not have any further information on this family.)
