    3. Rachel, I don't mean to bother you but if you don't mind I have a question about Amanda Wilson. I spoke to a gentleman at the old records center in Carthage Mo. this morning and he was unable to locate anything on Amanda. A question came up as to how I knew she was buried with her husband George. He was able to locate George in the Hedge-Lewis mortuary book but when he looked at the Webb City cemetery listings he found no George or Amanda. The Hedge-Lewis book shows he is buried in Webb City cemetery. Can you tell me what information you found to show Amanda on George's headstone and if they are positively buried in Webb City Cemetery and not let's say Mt. Hope or one of the other cemeteries in Webb City. Sorry for being such a pest :-) Roberta ----- Original Message ----- From: <RachelC918@aol.com> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 8:49 AM Subject: Re: [MOJASPER] George L. 2. Ann, Thanks, I don't think any of those Davis' were mine, however, as I stated, I really don't know beyond my gr. grandparents. I do know that Charles Wesley Davis was in ILL before coming to Joplin. I don't know where gr. grandma Hattie Conquest Davis came from. They had a passel of kids - there was a James, but that's as much info as I have there. As I mentioned, the only Davis I know anything about for sure are my grandparents, Henry Francis Davis and Margaret E. (Butterfield) Davis. When I get a chance, I'll check the list of Frank's siblings and list them for you. Margaret

    3. Morning List members, I have a mystery to solve and am hoping someone out there can help. When my grandmother died my dad located some old photo's. I'm the one in the family who got the bug for genealogy :-) where no one else has.But it came after the death of my grandfather in 1983. I give my dad the information I find and it jog's his memory and another clue will immerge. Back in 1920 my grandmother received a photo post card from Billy Calor\ Caleur. The name is hand written on front and back but the spelling is different. The post card refers to my grandmother as "cousin". My dad sort of remembers the name and would like to find him or his family. I have a photo copy of the post card. Billy appears to be around 10 years old he has dark hair and brown eyes. He appears to be well dressed in a dark knickers suit w/ matching hat, standing next to a rose bush in the yard. The address on the card were it was sent from reads R.F.D. 3 box 24 Joplin, Mo. and was dated March 12, 1920. Since we're not sure of the correct spelling of the last name, can someone if possible locate a directory of 1920 to see what family matches the above address. I would love to talk to anyone who is connected to Billy also. I don't know how long he lived at this address or even if it was sent from his home, but I feel I need to follow the address and find who lived there. Oh my grandmother was Theo Dora Estes and she was the granddaughter of George and Amanda Wilson. George owned a blacksmith shop in Webb City. Thanks for your help Roberta Estes Hall

    3. For newspaper articles, you might look in the books "Southwest Missouri newspaper abstracts" by Ruth E. Browning. There are several volumes and each one has a surname index. These are available from the Family History Ceneter at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The catalogue is online at http://www.familysearch.org/ I also saw these books in the library in Cassville. I'd imagine they'd have them in Joplin, and other libraries, too. There are also microfilms of newspapers at the Missouri Historical Society in Columbia. I haven't visited them yet, but I've gotten newspaper microfilms from them via Interlibrary Loan at my local library. They will also print articles for you if you can give them an exact date and page number for the newspaper. They also have a publication listing all the newspapers they have (unfortunately this is not online, but you can buy it for $14.) The State Historical Society of Missouri has a website at: http://www.system.missouri.edu/shs/ - Heather On Sun, 14 Jul 2002, John Hall wrote: > Hi list members, > I'm new to this list. > > I recently found information on my great great grandfather George L. 2. Ann, Thanks for your help. As to the Davis family. My gr grandfather was Charles Wesley Davis, and my gr. grandmother was Hattie (Conquest) Davis. I don't have a lot of info on Charles Wesley Davis, so really don't know what his parents names were. Can you give me more info there? Maybe we can connect somewhere. As to the pictures, any you get that you think would be pertinent for me, I'd love. Even just old pictures of Joplin. I was born there, but we moved to CA when I was 4 years old. So my knowledge of Joplin is really just from my visits there over the years, and what my grandparents, Uncle Francis C. Davis, who lived there all his life, and my mom told me. Thanks again for your answer. Margaret

    3. Margaret, I don't have a lot of info on the Widemans. My son is the one that was doing the research. I have bits and pieces because they keep crossing my side of the tree. Lucy Wideman b. about 1767 in Granville Co., NC and died abt 1835 Missouri. I have not proven this info it is from my son and a website. Lucy had a son, James, by a Davis. Lucy married a John Pruitt. Besides that I know very little. I have a Rebecca Davis married to a Solomon Copeland b. abt 1773 NC, d. 1882 TN; this is also not proven by me. They had a daughter Sarah b. abt 1799. Sarah shows up in the 1860 census for Miller Co., MO and in the 1850 Osage Co., MO census with her second husband, Ezekiel Blanton. I have other Davis names. I will list them here and if any are familiar I will give you what info, if any, I have. Alice A. Davis, Clarence J. Davis, Cora Davis, Ed Davis, Laurie B. Davis. These Davises are mostly from St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve Co., MO. If there is anything else I can help with, please let me know. My grandpa Jim was a painter of portraits and landscapes and also a songwriter/singer with a local radio show. His father and mother (John and Cornelia West) had a diner called Ma and Pa's mostly Ma's there in Joplin.
