Norma, I was just viewing your message on the county list and saw your mention of the 1880 census. Can I ask you if it is for Jasper Co.? I'm trying to find out if my family members had arrived in Webb City by that time. They should have but I'm just getting started on them and haven't had time to locate that census yet. Would you be willing to do a lookup for me if the census you mentioned is for the 1880 Jasper Co. area? The book shows these records were obtained from three sources "reading of the stones, use of old ledgers, and cards in the city office." The book lists Amanda E (ssw--same stone with) George L Wilson. Hope this helps. Rachel
Thanks Rachel it does. The question arose when I spoke to a gentleman in the old records center for the dept. of health located in Carthage, Mo. He couldn't find Amanda or George in the Webb City cemetery book and as I said before he only found George listed in the Hedge-Lewis Mortuary to 1940 book. I just wanted to make sure they were in Webb City cemetery. You might want to try to get ahold of a printed census index for the 1870 census, since ancestry.com hasn't indexed it yet. Joan Kunkel has a transcription of the 1870 Jasper co. Missouri census with an index. It is available from the Family History Center libraries. The library catalogue is at: http://www.familysearch.com/ - Heather On Tue, 16 Jul 2002, Norma Bremer wrote: > Heather, Thank you. If you don't know what county a city is in, rootsweb has a nice locator at: http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi On Tue, 16 Jul 2002, Norma Bremer wrote: > Hey guys, what county is Webb City in in MO. Ann, Yes, I keep hoping...thanks for your info. Margaret
You can check with the Webb City City Hall - they have a person who handles those records. She was very helpful to me. I'm sorry, I thought I had the lady's name, but must have misplaced it. I live in CA and can't get there very often. As I said, she was very helpful. Margaret
Thanks again, I will call the gal or order it on line. I sometimes volunteer at the library here, I am learning. I have the full 1880 census at home if I can help this stupid old lady will. Norma
