Surnames: Van Noy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/1915.3.1.2 Message Board Post: My grandfather was from Galena, Ks, and I visited there once looking for his grave in the cemeteries there; also did some checking with funeral homes in the city, but didn't get any answers. My mother felt that he was probably buried in the family plat at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena and that there must not have ever been a marker placed there. I sent for a death certificate from Kansas but turned up nothing. Then I remembered my mother once commented that his mother had married a man from Webb City, Mo. Even though his mother was buried at Oak Hill, I took a long shot and sent for a death certificate for him from Missouri. Lo and behold! I received one which stated that he died in the state hospital in Jasper Co. I would appreciate it if you would see if you can find a burial for him in Jasper Co. Maybe you know where inmates from the state hospital were normally buried. His name was Leroy VanNoy and I believe he died in either 1945 or 1947. Thanks.

    3. Hi Margaret! Thank you so much for your search of my great Uncle Bennie. The one you found is indeed him. They were the only Schreiner family in Joplin at that time. Could I ask of you to make copies of those items you mentioned and the cover page of the 1930 year book for me? I would be very happy to pay for your expense in doing so and for shipping. Email me privately if this is agreeable and I will provide you my address. 2. Hi Andrea, Sorry for the delay - away all day yesterday. I did find a Bennie Schreiner who was a Sophemore in 1930. His picture did not appear in the class pictures, but there were a couple of written things about him. On the achievements for the Sophemore page the following: " In the track contests Bennie Shriner (?) received first honors in the mile and a half races." I believe his name was mispelled because on the page for Intra-Mural Athletics he's listed as running the mile as Bennie Schreiner. He also appeared in the list of members for the ATHENAEUMS club. I hope this is your Schreiner - none of the others you mentioned appeared in the 1930 Joplimo. Margaret Rollins

    2. Candy, I'm so glad you got that cleared up. I felt badly that I couldn't find her in the Joplimo, but also, that there were NO Jones'....it's a pretty common name, and Mom had Louise Jones as a life long friend up to that time...I thought Louise must have graduated with Mom.....After we moved to CA I guess they probably lost track of each other, so I don't know what became of Louise Jones - unless Mom mentioned her and i didn't listen. At any rate. . .glad your question is cleared up. Margaret

    3. Tommy, Could you send me that address for that Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary and also what they charge for providing this service? I have me great-grandmother Evalyn May (McNutt) Schreiner's obituary and the Thornhill-Dillon Chapel was mentioned as being the place of the funeral service held by Dr. Ben Morris Ridpath for her in Aug 1947. I have been told by several family members that she was a midwife but cannot seem to get any solid proof of it. She lived at 121 Byers part of the time in Joplin and Gray Avenue another part of her time there. They moved to Joplin a little after 1920. She was buried as Osborne Memorial cemetery. That is about as much as I know of her from her time in Joplin. I have quite a bit though from her earlier days in Des Moines, Iowa. It would be interesting to see what show up on the card form the mortuary. Here are a list of her Pallbearers in case anyone is looking for these people: Hilton Taylor Carl Getz William Kluseman Howard Burnett William Hoake and Arthur Humbard. 2. I have recently rec'd a copy of the mortuary record for my grandmother. A portion of the photocopied record is blanked out - as if a blank business card were affixed to the original record. I know I can call the mortuary and probably track down whatever was hidden, and I probably will, but I thought it might be interesting to turn to the list and mention this. Perhaps it was done for a reason.. The mortuary is THORNHILL-DILLON in Joplin, and I might mention that my mailed-in request was fulfilled cheerfully and promptly - a one-week turnaround from CA. I provided S.A.S.E. The records I requested were from Apr 1946. Apparently at that time they recorded everything on a card, long and narrow, with each entry (name, address, etc) numbered. The numbers range from (1) to (44). If you are familiar with this card, perhaps you can answer my query - what is the question (being asked) at entries (42) and (43)? 3. Margaret, I know why she wasn't in the yearbook.... my brother just told me she went away to some boarding school in IL across the river from St. Louis. Well, duh. Why hadn't he ever told me this before? I guess he assumed I knew? (Mom died when I was 14, but my brother is 13 years older, so he had a lot more opportunity to talk with my mother about her growing up years.) Sorry to have troubled you, but I didn't know about her going off to boarding school. I assumed she would have been in the 1930 JHS yearbook if she was a junior in the 1929 yearbook. Of course, does my brother remember the name of the school or the name of the town it was in? Nope! Thanks again for everything - Candy

    3. Margaret, If you wouldn't mind I'm was wondering if you could check the year book for me also. I'm looking for a William "Billy" Colour\ Coleur don't know the correct spelling. All I know about the guy is that he may be a cousin to my grandmother and that he sent her a post card dated March 1920. He was living on R.F.D. 3 box 24 Joplin Mo. Looking at the photo he looks to be about 10 years old. I don't know if Billy attended Joplin high school. I don't even know if the address mentioned above would be in the Joplin High School boundaries. But if you wouldn't mind checking I would appreciate it. I'm hoping to learn the correct spelling of his last name. My father remembers his mother talking about Billy and he would very much like to locate him. Any help would be appreciated.
