    1. [MOJASPER] Mineral Museum
    2. John Hall
    3. Hi list members, I was just in Webb City this weekend. I dragged my father and cousin around with me (good thing). While hanging out my cousin told me about a museum in Joplin dedicated to the mining industry. He told me that an aunt of his on his mothers side of the family donated about 500 photo's to this museum. Does anyone know about this museum, we didn't have time to visit it, my cousin said photo's from Joplin, Webb City, Carterville and other surrounding towns may be included. My great great grandfather was a blacksmith on Daugherty St. in Webb City. We located the spot where his shop must of stood. It's gone now replaced with some other business but I would really like to find out if there is a photo of Daugherty St. circa 1900 (before or after) which may show my g-great grandfather's shop "The Jockey Club Shoeing Shop". I don't know how long this museum has been open, my cousin said he was going to check with his aunt to see if she has any left. Up until 2 months ago we had no idea we had family there, so when the photo's were donated no one had any reason to think there could possibly be family connections. Any help or suggestions would be truly appreciated. Thanks, Roberta

    3. I recently spoke to a very nice gentleman at the old records center in Carthage. He was very kind and helpful. You can contact them at 417-359-1100 or 125 N. Lincoln in Carthage. I'm not sure which department this will put you thru to as it came on a letter head. There's 3 names on it: Jim Lobbey, Steve Weldon archivist and Doris. She wrote the letter in response to my call. If you call this number just ask them to put you thru to the old records room and they will. ----- Original Message ----- From: <marlowb@netzero.net> To: <MOJASPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 4:41 PM Subject: [MOJASPER] Lattin Family in Carthage > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Bumpus Lattin Dillon Long Johnson Hart Conlee Shea McGuire Taylor Gardner > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/2065 > > Message Board Post: > > Can someone tell me where to look for or who has the death records for the Carthage area for deaths in the 1870's I have been researching the Lattin family and find some of the remaining stones in the Sidensticker Graveyard are of Lattin family members. Dimk (Dimmick) Lattin 1800-Feb 2, 1872, Ruth Lattin Sept,1853-Sept 1868, Asher Lattin 1837or8-Nov59 and L S Lattin no dates. I suspect one of the missing stones was for Catherine Bumpus, daughter of Dimmick Lattin and Serena (or Cyrenia) Lattin, wife of Dimmick. Both of these women died between 1870 and 1880. The Lattin farm was on the Spring river and during a flood in May 27 1872 a 5' high wall of water came down the river from a rain storm in Laurance Co the night before, causing considerable damage to everything in its path. Catherine is said to have drowned in a flood but no date or place was passed down in the family. I also beleive her mother Serena Lattin died in one of these floods and that some of the missing head stones were for them. The 1876 plat book of Jasper Co shows Dimmick's son George Lattin owning a farm of 200 acres including 40 acres that Dimmick purchased in 1854, so I know the family was still there 76 and Catherines husband Samuel Bumpus died there in 1885. > The Sidensticker dates conflict with information that is said to have come from Coleen Belk's book but I have photo's of the head stones and records to support the dates I have used. 3. Hi Ellen! Volney H. Fullerton, age 10 is on the 1870 census with his dad, Jesse H. Fullerton and some siblings. He's also on the 1880 census in his brother James H. Fullerton's household. I have a note that Gordon Fullerton said that Volney died in 1889 after being bitten by a rabid dog. He says Volney was born in 1856, but I think 1860 is more like it. I was bad and didn't write down the page number of Mr. Fullerton's book. It might be vol. 2, Pennsylvania Clan #022MT-1A p. 15-6 of the 1995 edition. I'll bet he was named after his uncle, Volney Hinton. And his nephew, Volney Motley, is named after him, I'll bet. I wonder if there were any other Volneys around, and whether any of Jesse's sons had a son named Volney Fullerton who might be the man in the picture. I don't know who Samuel Thomas Fullerton and Sarah Ann Arnett's children were. - Heather On Tue, 13 Aug 2002 Aslel@aol.com wrote: > Dearest Heather: > I am looking and don't find any listing of Volney FULLERTON and the dates > don't coincide with Jesse Harold's children or marriages. > However, I do find a listing of a Volney E.
