His wife was Katharine, children David and Delilah. I would be forever grateful. Or is there a death index out there anywhere for that time frame? Of course, he may not have died, maybe they divorced, but then wouldn't that be in probate court records too? or district court?
In my particular family they were in Jasper Co in mid 1850's but wre back in Illinois in 1860. Missouri was middle ground between slave and free states and there were orders to clearn a strip in 1860 so many fmailies went back to their original homes. Know my family had came to Missouri to claim land from grants for War of 1812 soldiers and their widows. Mining did not really start big in this area until early 1870's

He disappeared after the 1850 census record, John Duncan. Does anyone know of any records that lists any mining accidents between 1850-1860 or if there is are any old records anywhere that would tell who worked in the mines? I' know this is a long shot, but giving it a try.
I am seeking information on whatever happened to Martin Gist. My very old family notes state he was killed during the Civil War in the area of Carthage but I find no record of his death as soldier. His widow went on to raise their children in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Doug Gist

If you have information about her, are related to her or have an OBITUARY you would like to share with me, please respond to this posting! We are trying to update our Smith Family History. If you have a photo of her, it would be nice if you could post it on www.ancientfaces.com. You can post there for free too. It would save the postage, copy costs, etc. and we could all see it. THANK YOU!

You might have a better chance of somebody recognizing your folks if you were to e-mail that photo to [email protected] There are so many thousands of us SMITH descendants that we post all of our old family photos there and the nice webmaster lets us put them there for free. It is free to look and thousands of people see that site. What you would need to do is to ask the same questions that you asked here and you would have to put as much information as you could about the people in the photo, where and when it was taken, etc. Since it was a photo, somebody out there is bound to have the same photo and they would be able to help you IF you ask them too. It 's a lot like fishing, you got to put your information out there and be patient and sure enough, SOMEBODY will be able to put the missing pieces together. Good luck! The more you post, the more likely you will be able to find somebody who knows, It can take years but it WILL happen.

I did a search on the web and found this address and phone number for Park Cemetery: 801 S Baker Blvd, Carthage, MO 64836 Phone (417) 358-4534 I have relatives buried there but I've never been there myself. A volunteer got me a copy of the interment card for one of my ancestors that the cemetery had on file. Maybe they can provide this for you too. I am looking for a Virgil Smith (b abt 1859 MO ) married to Isabelle (Belle) Hostetter (b abt 1857 IN). They were living in Jasper Co in the 1880 census, no children. She passed away in 1899 and I can't seem to find Virgil in the 1900 census. I am wondering if there may be a connection to your Vernon? I haven't determined if they had children during the 19 years after the 1880 census and her death. Jones and John Lee were married in Christian County, 22 April 1892. Do you have their marriage license? I would like to know Mary's real age. Between 1900 and 1910, Mary aged 18 yrs instead of just 10. Was Mary only 17 when she married this 45 yr. old man or was she 24? If she was 24, she may have been a widow? Having married a Mr. Jones? When did Mary marry George Wilson and where did Mary die? Have you gotten information from the funeral home? This is a good mystery. Golden Lee is the only other member of the family that I managed to find.......in 1920.
