I recently found a picture of THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN on a Jasper County Website. This building was located near Paradise Cemetery and was completed around Christmas of 1886. My gr gr grandfather was Rev. John Lewis Condon who preached in the United Brethren in Christ Church and was in Jasper County in 1890. Can anyone tell me if The Church of the Brethren is the same as United Brethren in Christ? Any information about this would be apreciated. Jo Ann Collier

I am trying to locate an obituary for John Riley Nicholson. He passed away on Feb. 8, 1927. A thank you note to the public was posted in the Carl Junction Standard of Carl Junction, Missouri on Feb. 18, 1927. I would assume that the obituary may have been in the Feb. 11th Standard. I do not know if it might have been in the Joplin Globe. Thank you, Carolyn Sue Smith

Roy and Albert, I have death dates and possibly a reference to an obit from the Nevada Republican back in 1889 for Albert. Eli had to have passed away between the 1889 when Lorene was born and 1900 census. Widow Martha then was running a boarding house in 1900 in Webb City MO and had family with her. In 1910 she had remarried Jesse or Joe Coplin/ Copleand. In about 1917 Lorene the youngest daughter marries Delmar H. Clark and lives next door in 1920. Oldest son Edward and middle son Charles are missing from census, but Jesse is still there. In 1930 Martha is deceased and Lorene and Delmar still live next door. I think I have found Charles the middle son as Charles Brown Ater in Rush Co. KS but do not know for sure until I do more checking there. Anyone have any info to share, I certainly have lots of info from the family they left in Piatt Co. IL when they moved to MO in the 1880s. (BLEVINS MYRICK) GREEN (I believe that was her last name when she was killed). b. 1902, died 1964 around Diamond MO. Josie was a 1st cousin to my mother. The story goes that she was murdered by her 2nd husband, last name believed to be Green or something similiar. Two of Josie's brothers had gone to her home in Diamond looking for her. Her husband told them she'd been gone for several days and he didn't know where she was. He would not let them look in the house. It is believed Josie's body was in the bathtub at the time. Her body was later found by one of her brothers and one of her sons. It has been chopped up and thrown into a well. The obit/newspaper article(s) would be great. I would also like to find out about the trial/sencencing if possible. It is believed that her husband served time in a MO prison and was later committed to a mental hospital. While this is a sensational story, other such stories I've been told have not been exactly true. I would appreciate any help you can give and I'm willing to pay for copying/mailing fees. Please feel free to e-mail me directly. Sue in NE AR

Have you tried getting a copy of his service record or Civil War pension record? If he was a soldier when he died, his widow probably would have filed for a pension. Pension applications have a lot of good information. These are available through the National Archives. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug Gist" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 2:31 PM Subject: [MOJASPER] I AM SEEKING INFO ON SOMEONE KILLED IN THE 1860s NAMED MARTIN GIST > I am seeking information on whatever happened to Martin Gist.
