I knew that Joplin was not now in a Lamar County, and I could not find any indication on historical sites that it had ever been. But counties do sometimes change their names and I wanted to be sure. I didn't have any luck. You can check for all deaths in Jasper Co if you want to look for any messed up possible spelling. Pick the county, but don't enter anything for the name, or maybe just (S,) if you're sure it couldn't have been written so badly the S looked like a L or another letter. Record 1 thru 50 of 1335 S, = Record 1 thru 50 of 91, this includes any surname containing an s. Only 5 surnames started with S. Just in case Newton Co. MO is possible Record 1 thru 50 of 263 Record 1 thru 39 of 39 only 8 surnames began with S. He just didn't seem to get into the database. Orlena

I'm not up on the township history. There is a Joplin township in Jasper Co. There isn't now any Lamar township in Newton Co. either. Nor have there been, as far as I can tell, any Lamar Cities in Jasper or Newton counties. Barton County is the only one that has a Lamar Township as well as a Lamar city. Boundaries and names have changed between the counties from time to time through the years. Here's a link to the mailing list Archives, where I once answered a question refering to these changes. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/MOJASPER/2005-08/1123285258 Is it possible, due to the handwriting and or spelling, that you are reading it incorrectly? What time period does it seem to be. I do not find any references to a Lamar county anywhere in Missouri. Is it possible they could have lived in Joplin, Lamar in Missouri, meaning Joplin & Lamar in Missouri? Maybe if you'll give their names, we can find where they may have been in the Federal census. That could help answer the question if we can find them. Orlena

    3. Hi All & Marie, My Great-Grandfather, James Riley WILLIAMS died in Jasper Co., MO., although none of his grandchildren were able to tell me when nor where. "Riley" WILLIAMS' sister was Martha Ellen WILLIAMS born about 1857. On the 1860 & 1870 census she was still with her parents (Elihu & Elvira WILLIAMS) in IL. She married William Howard PATTERSON 31 Aug 1877 in Washington Co., IL. 1880 they were still in Washington Co., IL.; but 1900 and 1910 they were in Jasper Co., MO. Apparently they had four children; but only one (1) was living in 1900. She was Faye L. PATTERSON b. June 1888. Is anyone able to tell me more about Faye L. PATTERSON who was born in June 1888? Marie, could William Howard PATTERSON be any relative of your Alfred Newton PATTERSON?? 3. Hi Marie, No I don't have a Miranda listed. I did a family report on Tillmon S. Patterson's family and I did find a Myrtle Lavella Patterson. It's possible this is the Mystle I spoke of earlier. She is the 4th child of my Amanda's second oldest brother Sampson Smith Patterson. If I failed to mentioned it before Amanda was one of 13 children her parents had. I thought maybe one of the brothers would have a middle name of William but I don't see anything like that listed here so I guess we've hit a dead end. I have all my Patterson's being born in Illinois but I don't have where all of them passed away. This means I don't know which ones were living in Missouri when Amanda and her family were there. 3. Hi Marie, My Amanda E. Patterson was b. 7-3-1853 and married George L. Wilson in Illinois in 1870. Amanda E. Patterson Wilson lived in Webb City from about 1878 until her death in 1894. Amanda's husband was a member of the Odd Fellows. George and Amanda's only son (my ggreat grandfather Darious) at the age of 21 was wondering around parts of northern Arkansas when he contracted Typhoid Fever. George and Amanda were summoned by letter stating that if they wanted to see there son alive again they should come. They took the train from Webb City to Benton Co., Cherokee Arkansas where they two contracted Typhoid Fever. My ggreat grandfather Darious and his father in time recovered but Amanda died about a week after arriving in Benton Co., to be with her son. George's Odd Fellow chapter heard of their plight and what happened to Amanda. I'm not 100% sure if it was a local chapter or one from back home but the Sisters Rebekahs were the ones who arranged to bring Amanda's body back to Webb City as well as arranging her funeral. George and Darious were too weak to travel and had to stay in Benton Co., Arkansas. A letter was written by one of Amanda and George's daughters (Mary Julia "Birdie" Wilson) on 2-20-1894 to her cousin Msytle. The letter gives details about what happened to Amanda. I don't know who this Msytle is but toward the end of the letter Berdie states she will send too papers one for Msytle and the other for "ma's" brothers and sisters. Now at this point Berdie's dad and brother are still recovering in Cherokee, Arkansas and left at home are the 4 girls, the oldest being 23 and the youngest only being 2 1/2. Have you come across anyone in your research who's name or nick name might have been Msytle? She was a cousin to my ggreat grandfather and I believe she is from the Patterson side of the family. Is there any chance that this Henrietta is the same person as your gg grandmother's sister? Who was her sister? The Henrietta Wright in my records had an older sister named Olive Wright, who married George Davison in 1873. The coincidence of the names Henrietta and Harriet caught my eye. Nancy Sicotte

    3. Harriett Finch's mother was Henrietta Wright, b 1842, in Jasper Co. IL. She married a Wm Finch in 1863, Champaign Co. IL. This Henrietta's parents were Lucinda (McComas) Wright & James Wright (he was a M-E minister) of Jasper Co. IL. The Wrights had earlier been in Rush Co. IN, coming originally from VA. The Finchs lived in Switzerland Co. IN & Greene Co. MO & were in the Jasper Co. MO census in 1910. It really is a coincidence in names but doesn't appear to be the same lady. You seem to have a lot of information that I don't have, so you may share more than I do. (I've put most of mine out already.) I can't help but think that the Huckabys that Amand married into in Wayne County, Kentucky have to be related to the Frank Huckaby that married Biddy Adkinson's granddaughter, Mary Ann Marcum. I don't have any information on Amanda Huckaby other than the fact that she was daughter of James Adkinson and his first wife, Eliza Redenour/Ridenour, nor do I have any information on her sister, Sally (Polly) Adkinson. (I don't even have their birthdates listed yet, I'm not sure if I have them.) If Amanda's husband remarried Theresa Sowders, then it would seem that Amanda must have died. There's suppose to be a really good, fairly new genealogy room in the Monticello Public Library in Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky. I wonder if they'd have record of her death?

    3. Marie, Any chance you Alfred Patterson might be connected to my Amanda Ellison Patterson. If so he might have possibly been her nephew. My Amanda E. Patterson was b. 1853 she was one of 13 children born to Tillmond/ Telmond Sylvester Patterson in Athensville, Illinois. Amanda married in Illinois and around 1878 moved with her young family to Webb City. There she had two more children. I'm told that some of Amanda's siblings made the move to Webb City or surrounding areas as well. My Amanda married a Wilson and her, her husband and their youngest daughter are all buried in the Webb City Cemetery. Do you know anything about your Alfred's parents?
