Don't know why I never thought to look for Bugle. I appreciate the census image. Now I've got to figure out how to make something legible out of it. You've given me several new leads. Thank you so very much! (BTW, I was the source for the info about his life in Kansas.) Grace

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1MB.2ACI/2972.1 Message Board Post: "The Joplin Globe," 12/16/1913 indicates that he was hit by a falling slab at the Davy number 3 mine over near Carterville, Mo. He worked as an ore shoveler. Small article on page 9. Same paper for 12/18/1913 page 9 gives results of coroner's inquest. He was not hit by a falling boulder as reported, but was hit by a boulder thrown by a blast to break up rocks. This blast was in another drift and he thought he was protected. Sounds fishy to me. I would expect that the blast caused a rock to fall from the ceiling in the area where he was working and it conked him. Accidents like this were very common and did not make much of a headline. Buried at Goodman cemetery. JS
