    1. Obituary look up for Mrs Rebecca Jane GRIGGS died 1950
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GRIGGS, ENGLISH, WILSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1MB.2ACI/2993 Message Board Post: I need a transcription of any obituary for Mrs Rebecca Jane GRIGGS who died April 1950 in Joplin, Jasper Co MO. She was the widow of Lee A. GRIGGS and the mother of Ruby born abt 1912. I do not know if she or Lee had been previously married to others or if either had other children. I think her maiden name was ENGLISH and that she was Rebecca Jane, oldest child of Joseph ENGLISH and Rebecca [WILSON] who lived and died in Benton Co AR. Joseph ENGLISH's obituary Sep 1925 said he was survived by a son Oliver ENGLISH and a "daughter, Mrs Lee Griggs of Joplin" . The 1920 and 1930 censuses below are the only "Lee Griggs" I found living in "Joplin" and the wife's given name, age, and birthplace matches too. 1920 Jasper Co MO/Joplin/HH 420-525/pg 158b Griggs, Lee/HH/wm age 52 TN/Tn/Tn GRIGGS, Jane/wife/wf age 50 Ar/TX/Ar Griggs, Ruby M/dtr/wf age 07 MO/Tn/Ar 1930 Newton Co MO/Granby/HH 63-63/pg 92a/pg 92a Griggs, Lee A/HH/wm age 64 TN/Tn/TN GRIGGS, Jane/wife/wf age 63 Ar/US/Ar My heartfelt thanks for this transcription or any additional information on Rebecca Jane's child or children, Kathye

    1. Re: [MOJASPER] Carthage House Torn Down
    2. Hi Sandi I am sorry but I do not remember anyone named Catherine. I didn't move to Carthage until 1948 and I was an infant then. Do you have any idea of her last name and possibly what restaurant? My grandmother, brother, uncle and I lived there until 1959 at which time my grandmother and I moved to OK. We came back every chance we got and I still go visit now as often as I can. If you could give me a little more info on Catherine I will ask my uncle who might remember something. It never hurts to ask. I live in Georgia now so I don't get home as often as I would like. But I do enjoy going. My folks are in the Joplin/Neosho area now, but I still like to roam the area. Let me know. Carole

    3. Thanks so much, Carole, I'm actually leaving for the Joplin area tomorrow. I'm in CA now, but I'm going to Lamar to pick up my Dad and move him out here with me and my kids. I was also an infant at that time....but her name was Catherine Brown and she married an Alexander and then in 1948 a Bray. I do know she had a mother, brother and sister in Cairo IL area. We are interested in knowing if anyone knows her and if she has any relatives in the area that might have a picture of her, which is what we are looking for. She gave 3 children up for adoption in the short span of a year, and I was one of those children. I am not wanting to meet her if she is still living. I would like to find out if she gave up any more children, or if anyone has health information for us, and perhaps pictures of our ancestors. That's all we are interested in. We'd like to meet our father, though. His name is Edward Alexander. Thanks so much for your help.
