Three young women who planned to participate in Halloween festivities tonight in boys' attire received nothing but discouragement from the office of the county prosecutor when they inquired over the telephone this morning what the law had to say on the subject. The young women would not give their names, but all asked the same question: "Will girls be allowed to wear men's clothing Halloween night?" Norman WOODSON, an assistant prosecutor, had the same advice for all: "Don't do it." And in support of his advice he read the law to them as it appears in section 291 of the Revised Ordinances of 1910. This is what it says: No person shall be or appear in or upon any street, avenue, alley, park, public place, or place open to public view in any dress not belonging to his or her sex. Any person so offending shall be punished by a fine of not less than one dollar or more than five hundred dollars. That's the law, and there is no dispensation for Halloween. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
