The body of Richard O'BRIEN, a saloon keeper who died last Saturday, was refused burial by the Catholic church because he had belonged to the Knights of Pythias. The Catholic church has put a ban on this secret society and any Catholic who belongs to the order forfeits his right to burial in the church. Father LILLIS was appealed to by the widow of the dead man. He refused to bury the body. Bishop GLENNON was then asked to intervene, but he said it was a ruling of the pope and he had no right to violate it. He could do nothing. The body was buried Monday morning under direction of the Liquor Dealers Benevolent association in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Kansas City, Kas. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
