On Sunday evening a young man names S. W. NOYES, assistant Mail Agent on the Kansas City, St. Joe & Council Bluffs Railroad, met with his death in a very sudden and rather singular manner. He was coming up Bluff street in the face of the bitter, biting storm then prevailing from the northwest when he began to complain to the two gentlemen accompanying him of a sudden and severe pain in the chest. When they reached the little apple stand near Broadway he was unable to walk, and asked for assistance to keep him from falling. The two gentlemen supported Mr. NOYES across the street to Freeman's saloon, corner of Broadway and Fifth street, and gave him a seat in a chair. He was by this time unable to speak, but motioned toward the door and tried to articulate the word "doctor." The bartender gave him brandy and endeavored by every means to revive the exhausted young man, but without avail. In ten minutes from the time he was brought into the saloon the young man was a corpse. His remains were taken into the next room and laid out. A coffin was brought from the undertaker's, and yesterday morning he was sent back to his friends at St. Joseph. His death was caused by asthma and the severe storm. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
