Vanette is so right the new owners are not seeker friendly but the office will give you ,in person, a map and directions if the grave is in their files.Computer files. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2008 1:06 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MOJACKSO] Mt. Washington cemetery, Kansas City,MO. It's still Mt. Washington. It was taken over by a corporation sometime before 2002 when we buried my mother's ashes there and is now called Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. The old records were excellent, even including cause of death, birthplaces, etc. but I don't know about those by the 1950s. I have heard rumors that the present management is not very inquiry-friendly but can't confirm that first hand. The former owners were wonderful. It is a very large cemetery, roughly 3/4 mile by 1/2 mile and very hilly (and beautiful) but the hills mean that there is even more area than if it were flat, It has been in constant use since at least 1915, so finding anyone there without directions would be nearly impossible. The address, which you must have had since you wrote them, is 614 Brookside Independence, MO 64053 but the main entrance is from Winner Rd. aka 24 Highway right at Brookside and is about a mile east of I-435. Another large entrance is on Truman Rd. about the same distance east of I-435. I don't mean to be discouraging but wanted you to know what you'd be facing before you consider making a trip to visit. The deed to the plot shows the block number. Perhaps someone in the family has the deed? Also, the deed I have for two plots for my parents was recorded with the county. The deed is in my mother's name, as my dad died first so you would be looking for the name of a relative, not your grandmother's name, unless she bought the plot before her death. I don't have any idea how to look for something like that at the courthouse but perhaps someone else can tell you. Good luck in your search. I wish I could think of something that might help more.
