"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Monday, July 6, 1896 IN A DEPLORABLE CONDITION. Walter BROWN, who resides with his family near the new tannery about two miles from Kansas City, Kan., was taken to St. Margaret's hospital yesterday while in a most deplorable condition. A passerby happened to stop in at BROWN's house and, upon taking in the surroundings, notified the police, who at once sent the ambulance and had the man removed to the hospital. BROWN is suffering from an internal inflammation that is almost certain to prove fatal. When found, his body was swollen out of all proportions, and he was unable to move in bed. His wife and their five little children were gathered around him in a helpless condition. The hut in which he was lying is a miserable structure, with cracks from one to three inches wide in the walls and roof. During the heavy rain Friday night the sick man got very wet, and his ailment at once became more aggravated. An operation was performed on him at the hospital yesterday as a last resort, but there are but small hopes of his recovery. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10
