Express Messenger Elston WHITTLESEY, who was shot by train robbers last Friday morning near Cimarron, Kan., and who is at his home, 1420 Montgall avenue, is suffering intensely from his wound, but is in a fair way to recover. The wound was made by a bullet from a 45-caliber Winchester rifle. The ball tore through the outside and inside lining of the express car, which flattened it, and when it struck Messenger WHITTLESEY in the side it bored a ragged hole through his body which will be a long time in healing. The excessively hot weather aggravates the wound, especially so at night. Express Messenger JOHNSON, who relieved WHITTLESEY after the latter was shot, and who ran the car through to Los Angeles, has returned and brought with him as a relic of the hold up a piece of the car door with a bullet hole in the center, which he will have made into a clock shelf. He said that he counted thirty-three bullet holes in the car, and the outside was literally peppered with buck-shot. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
