There apparently is no 615 Independence Avenue in KC now (according to mapquest). Independence Ave now appears to turn into Cherry where 615 might have been. The time frame I'm interested in is the early 1900s. Whatever was there may have been close to Columbus Square which was renamed from Washington Square in the 1920s. The Karnes Elementary school was at Columbus Square. (It was torn down in the 1990s.) Karnes was known as the Italian school. My grandfather's ship's manifest said he was going to go to 613-615 Independence Avenue in KC where his aunt Elisabetta Leone was. (Grandpa was a Rotondi and then Retonde.) His 1917 draft registration said he was living at 615 Independence Ave. The death certificate for an Italian (Basile - perhaps a relative) said he was a banker at the farm exchange at 615 Independence Ave. That same person applied for a passport in 1905 and requested that the passport be delivered to 615 Independence Ave. Could this have been the old farmer's market in KC? Does anyone know what was at this address from 1907 to 1918? I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
