In 1860 census he was a Justice of the Peace.? In 1861 he was dead at age 51.?Considering time frame, how did he die????On Sep 9,?1850, his house was torn down to stop a fire on the square in Independence after a gunpowder explosion at?the rear of?warehouse of Stone & Webb west side of square.? I have the deposition of John Kelly's possessions?who died intestate and administrator was one, George W. Buchanan, attorney and politician, maybe also a friend and business partner as a son of John Kelly was named George Buchanan Kelly.? George Kelly went on to become an editor/owner of Moberly Monitor in Randolph county, gold mine owner and later owned a chain of movie theatres in Los Angeles, buried Indlewood Cemetery after being struck by auto and killed.? Also have copy of lawsuit depositiion listing property/real estate of John's widow, Polly Ann Davis Kelly, plaintiff,?against attorney George W. Buchanan and her children filed by one attorney last name of HOVEY, at one time a partner of George.....In it are several wood frame houses plus a reference to the KELLY Mansion.? Filed in Probate & Common Court?of Jackson County MO. Refers also to property/house for use by said decedent in his lifetime to one William McCoy???? Eight acres within city limits of Indep.? A Two story Brick storehouse on public square.? Plus a lot of land around Leeds.? Have gathered a lot of info but unable to find death of John Kelly listed anywhere.? Born 1810 in Virginia.? Married Polly Ann Davis of Kentucky born 1815,?in 1840 Jackson county.??Daughters educated at Woodland college in Indep.? Josephine Kelly, dau, school teacher Indep.? All buried family plot Woodlawn.? John Kelly's brother in law, Daniel Cusenbary killed Oct 4, 1863 on Indep street by Union Soldier.? Buried Woodlawn also.? First wife Sallie Davis, Polly's older?sister (b 1810)(D 1847)?and Daniel's children from second marriage all buried in Cusenbary cemetery on Blue Mill Road.?
